Also, it looks like there’s a semi-transparent stain on there now. Are you thinking about using a Solid Stain next time?
Are you set on leaving the brick alone?
Definitely not red, dark green does look good though. I’m a fan of more neutral as well…think a grey like above would look even better.
Hey, thanks all.
So, we definitely are now agreeing that red is out. I’m looking into how to use Photoshop to see what an earth-tone green and grey looks like. The tool I was using just didn’t allow me to do what I wanted… it had limited colors.
- We want to leave the brick alone, unless there’s some amazing “Oh, you can do that?” suggestion. It’s the whole entry way of the house and up both front sides of that front window, so it’s a lot of brick.
- We were able to get our roofer to hold off on purchasing the black shingles. We may go Brown again.
Is this more craftsman green? I’m horrible with Photoshop, but I was able to get this color on there. I’m not sure how to get it darker… I’m doing something wrong. ha
Don’t paint your brick. Please.
If that’s what it is, I would highly recommend using it again. I have it on my house, much better than using paint. It never peels off, soaks into the wood and you will be happy you used it next time you have refinish it again.
+1 on the semi-transparent stain, we used Behr Premium (below) on our back patio as well as our entire playground pirate ship. It’s been on our patio for 5+ years and looks the same as they day we put it on…couldn’t be happier with the product.
Solid stain should soak in just as well as semi-transparent stain. Never use paint on it. We used a solid stain from Sherwin Williams on our last house and it came out great.

This. For the love of god. this.
The bricks are staying as-is. That’s been settled.
Brown or black shingles is the next question I guess. Now I’m leaning back towards Brown, since I’m not going with the bold Red anymore. We’re now discussing a green/gray/tan, as you guys recommended (Thanks!)
As for the semi-transparent stain, you lost me. Do I just paint over it? Can I stain over it like paint?
Black roof with brown shutters is the equivalent of Brown belt, black dress shoes. Cohesiveness is key.
Black Roof (or smoke, with different shades of black, dark grey)
Black Shutters
Grey/Taupe Paint
White trim, soffets etc
Your choice of door color
we did a “weathered wood” roof, white trim, green paint and red shutters (don’t have a picture of that). Looks awesome. I don’t have a picture of it completed, but here’s a picture when it was being built.
What about a dark blue with khaki?
And white socks…
how about a navy blue?
OK, here’s a different angle, to get an idea of the bricks. Since everything is earth tone, I’ll probably go brown roof, tan/existing trim. How’s this green look?
Because it was brought up… also in blue? One thing I’m learning in this, is that I have no idea what I"m doing. I liked the red and look how far i’ve come in “Well, it’s NEVER going to be red…” ha

Melissa just asked me to do a greyish green. Honestly, I really like this one…
Brown or Black roof (still have to decide that… leaning Brown for me). Tan trim, as it is.
I like the grey-green
Darken the blue up a cunt hair and that’s the ticket
Yeah that’s also a good look but I agree it could be a little darker. IMO, a bit darker/deeper colors have more depth.
The salmon color looks like something you would see in a colorado suburb. Looks decent, unusual for WNY though.
The light tan looks so boring, looks like every other house on the block.
I think either the darker blue or green are winners, both are timeless colors that won’t seem dated after a while.
