STM Front Drag Brake Kits for Evolution X allow you to ditch the weight of your big, heavy Brembos and rotors and clears room to run smaller wheels and slicks.
This brake set-up is specifically designed for Drag Racing.
This is not intended for constant, on/off braking as in road-racing or autocross.
Evo X Rotor Specs:
Stock Rotor: 24.30 pounds
STM Standard Rotor: 9.30 pounds
STM Scalloped Rotor: 6.55 pounds
Savings of up to 35.5 pounds of rotating mass in the front!
The Willwood Calipers are 14 pounds less than the factory Evo X Brembos, combined with the savings from the rotors we have a total of up to 49.5 pounds off the front of the car!
It’s not necessarily all about how much time just doing the brakes will save you. There’s a lot more these allow you to do. I recommend you get the rear kit as well to take full advantage of being able to use a 15 inch wheel so you can run a specific size tire on the car too.
I bet you are saving at least another 15 or so lbs per wheel with your new wheel tire combo too so thatll be great + these brakes
I have 26" qtp’s on some 16s already so I have saved that weight and can run stock brakes I am just not sure how much more it would help. I know it does , but I am not chasing any records … That I know of
I have seen quite a few STM cars around the same power as me drop to low 10s switching to small front brakes. I am wondering if I would be able to dip any lower
Enough about my car tho Lol
What is the stock turbo record now for your cars ?
For your car to get to LOW 10’s you’d need to take out some more weight I believe and rotational mass is huge. It’s free power more or less as well. If I were you I’d look at taking off the brembos and selling them and using the mini brakes with the scalloped rotor. Also maybe call up the shop and ask the guys about your suspension setup as well. If you can get your 60 ft down you’ll ET much much better.
yeah i have been trying to shave as much weight as i can without sacrificing any 1st world comforts… at this point Lol
i think from last year i should be almost -250-260lbs of just pure weight in general if i get these brakes while still retaining full interior so maybe 300lbs if i remove pass seat/rear seats for track .
this is all ricer (no pun intended lol) math from this point but with a good 60ft 1.4-1.5 and minus this static weight i would assume -.4 seconds or so all together with just weight savings+ the extra power 100hp/50ft lbs tq or so i am making
and then included in that is (assuming 4x static weight loss thru my wheels, driveshaft and these brakes tho that may not be entirely correct) I am almost at 550lbs rotational mass Lost if i get F&R small brake kit
Just remember empire just went under new ownership… So the guy might be a huge prick with safety or he might be real leniant. This is why I’m just biting the bullet and putting a cage in my car. Plus going 150+ is scary enough as it is lol
Your car makes total sense to me to put a cage in haha. I couldn’t imagine going another 20mph faster within that short of a distance
i will probably only be able to run 1 or 2 passes at lancaster since they told me i needed a cage last time. they let me go though because it was the last test and tune of the year. I’ll prob more than likely have to shut it down halfway on either track and just practice launching again on my new tires
I know we are not exactly the best of friends lol but it would be cool to get a few evo’s down at the track together
But anywho back to small brakes. You should pick up the front and rear for sure. Any bit of weight you can take off the better and a 15 inch wheel is more weight off too.
ripped my ebrake off last night removing everything it seems like its pretty straight forward and very well put together so i am going to get the hydro ebrake kit to make it easiest. i noticed a bit of a difference already with the reduced drag since my ebrake was a little tight
