STM Tuned's Project X

I’d never have thought I’d have gotten this far into a car to be making one of these but in the never ending quest for more power it’s lead to this point. The car itself is a 2013 Evo X GSR. This was my second venture into owning a “tuner” car as I had a 2005 Cobalt SS back when I was 19, so with the Evo I decided to do basic bolt ons with new wheels and lower the car. When it came time to tune the car I contacted Emery from STM because of a mutual friend we have, so I had met him years back. He agreed to tune the car for me even though it had parts from another shop. On the STM mustang dyno the car made 330/330 which wasn’t too bad, but as we all know numbers are just numbers so we decided to go racing and see how the sum of the parts worked. I took the car racing looking like this…http://i1333.photobucket.com/albums/w630/moralec31/DC937423-35CC-4432-AD62-7C69FD504536_zpsksetv7xl.jpg
Here’s another one next to STM TRBOTAXI

The car ran a 12.24 at 111.77 making it the 5th fastest stock turbo Evo X. The video of the pass can be seen here and was filmed by my good friend Dave(articzap) who does a lot of video work for STM

Not a bad time for it’s 3rd ever pass down the 1/4 mile but as always in the quest for more, it’s not good enough. So with this in mind I contacted Emery and ran some ideas by him and the car made the voyage to STM. The build consists of every part in the STM catalog for the Evo X, which are all hand made by Austin and Cory who are amazing at what they do. The list for this year consists of the following:

STM upper intercooler pipe
STM lower intercooler pipe flanged for Tial QR BOV
STM 3 inch intercooler
STM 3 inch intake with 6 inch velocity stack and filter
STM 3 inch aluminum test pipe
STM 3 inch aluminum dual exit exhaust with 4 inch tips
STM spec D2 drag coilovers with custom Swift springs
STM Front and Rear Drag brakes with scalloped rotors
STM aluminum power steering reservoir
STM aluminum coolant overflow tank
STM mini battery kit with Lithium Pros battery
MAP upgraded clutch master cylinder(evo 8/9 cmc)
OEM aluminum valve cover coated by Justin at Detective Coatings
Exedy triple plate clutch with ACT monoloc clip
STM clutch fork stop
FIC 2150 injectors
Walbro 450 E85 pump
Kirkey racing seats with covers

The goal for 2014: Not be #5 on the stock turbo list, show the evo X is a capable car for this kind of racing and to hurt some feelings. Ill reserve the next couple posts to show pictures of the progression of the car. All of these parts on the car are available for purchase now as they are not one off parts which is awesome.

Here’s a fab pic that Austin sent me of the lower pipe and then another of the new piping compared to factory pieceshttp://i1333.photobucket.com/albums/w630/moralec31/EF239C85-40FC-42FB-BB6C-3AA465D3F267_zps2quc6v6m.jpghttp://i1333.photobucket.com/albums/w630/moralec31/565A4963-76F5-4381-85C4-B6CCF704E063_zpswpplgkgx.jpg

good looking car

Those new parts, and the car, look great. Curious to see some numbers once it’s tuned on E85.

what’s the new stock turbo goal?

looks awesome. light weight/go fast

Well the goal is to be the fastest stock turbo X. What the actual pass will be is still up in the air. I’m hoping a low 11, but realistically with a really good pass a 10.99 would be possible I think.

Wow. Big changes and another super clean STM build. How much weight are you actually saving vs stock?

Has anyone dd’d those brakes?

Why purple?

Looking nice! I’m guessing no snow tires for this EVO… LOL

X…

Those brakes are gorgeous! Nice car!

Loving the purple. Nice work!

Haven’t weighed the car yet to be honest so the total weight loss isnt known at this moment. As far as daily driving with these brakes there shouldn’t be an issue on them. They are the same size as 2g DSM brakes but when I get the car back I’ll let you know exactly how they are. Purple was picked more because it goes nicely with white.

I am also curious about the brakes in DD. The work looks to be top notch as usual. Them boys know how to build some clean fast cars!

Any plans to run at the DSM/EVO shoot out? I know it’s pretty far down the line but its always a fun trip!

i wouldn’t recommend towing a 20ft trailer with the brakes but they will probably be fine for any street driving. Like chris said the calipers and everything else are the same size as factory brakes basically on any other car… it’s just that evo’s have huge brakes from the factory Lol

i have the standard rotor version of this kit and they are basically the same as any standard rotor for most cars in sizing, but considerably lighter

are you doing any cams or anything? or do cams not helps as much as they do with 4g63’s

Depending on my work I’ll be at the shoot out. Psphinx and myself work at the same place and usually they don’t let 2 people have the same days off which sucks, as he already has that Thursday, Friday and Saturday. So I’m hoping I can attend!

I’m sure cams will help but I need to use the stock longblock for the record I’m shooting for. They’re in the plans for the future though.

ah ok. that will be an impressive record for sure then!

Just a few additions to the car

Are you back bracing those seats?

secksy

Personally I couldn’t tell you off hand. If there’s an issue with the seats I’m positive it will get taken care of

The answer is no judging from the picture.

I personally don’t care what you do but those seats are supposed to use a separate back brace for safety jump on the googles and take a look.

If you were to get in an accident or something the seats were designed with a separate brace in mind and without could snap in half.

Anyways just something to look into they make all kinds kits/mounting for them.
