After picking up my 3rd Evo (owned an VIII and a IX previously) I’ve fallen in love all over again. The new 4b11 powerplant is everything Mitsubishi promised it’d be and for the time being has made the 4g63 but a distant memory in my feeble mind. After doing countless hours of research (I have a lot of down time) I’ve decided to do a few minor modifications to really bring the X to life. From the factory Mitsubishi decided it’d be a fantastic idea to run the car extremely rich (we’re talking an AFR in the 9’s @ WOT to redline) so that will have to go naturally. The factory downpipe and o2 housing are surprisingly (after seeing how poor they were on the VIII and IX) free flowing and will stay with the OE cats for emissions and warranty purposes. Minor modifications that have been purchased are listed below along with the car and other minor plans. With the short list planned I should be able to extract 320+whp and 320+wtq. Why ECUTeK you ask? Well, in short, it’s the only program currently available for the X’s that has reliable logging ability and also comes with a good ‘base’ map in which to start. As I haven’t tuned an X yet it should prove to be very helpful (plus live logging and map changing will be awesome, have never had the ability before). I went back and forth several times on the suspension before finally deciding to keep the OE KYB struts and matched them with a spring that is progressively wound and rated the same vs Swift and Work. The Eibach Pro-Kit has been a popular choice amongst X owners and having used Eibach in the past I was comfortable with the decision.

Recap:
-OEM BCS is maxxed
-OEM fuel pump is beyond maxxed
-OEM clutch is hanging on for dear life
Plenty of power all the way til 8,000rpm! Once I dropped off Cossey and Whitney I went out for a ride and the car drives night and day different. Pulls hard all the way through the powerband and really moves out up top where it’d sputter out before. Once the OEM clutch goes I’ll put in something that will hold along with a bigger fuel pump and a race gas tune. Should be even more fun than it already is Another very happy Ivey Tune customer.
