Anyone got an Evo X?

I picked up the new evo last month and have yet to see another one around. I bought it in West Seneca (WNY) and drove it a ton but I go to school near Rochester and have yet to see one there either.

Let me know if you’re up for a ride, regardless of what you’re driving.

there are a few floating around… but they’re not exactly flooding the streets.

I haven’t seen any in Buffalo, but have seen a handful everywhere else I’ve been ( California, Baltimore )

Do you do anything to warrant the use of the AYC? I’m interested in hearing how it responds… I hope you track it, and not in a straight line either :frowning:

Anyways, EVO X sales are crawling at very best, prices on them are dropping too… I wonder what you paid for it, as there are some dealers online and on evom selling for near 31k, which is just rediculous… I’ve been looking too…

Just watch out for the broken pedal :frowning:

That would suck so hard.

Bring it to Dunnville on Saturday!

And then bring it to Autocross Sunday!

No but I parked next to two black ones at a rest stop in Syracuse yesterday headed west. Both with dealer plates. One was an MR. They were sexy.

Almost bought a base for 34k otd in April… cheapest price I could find locally at the time. Decided against it at the last minute.
Saw a black MR at Ray Laks today with a dealer plate on it. Gorgeous car.
Post some pics of your Evo.

There’s another guy in Rochester with one.

He’s on www.rochesterdsm.org

His screen name is Hiboost. He just got it and is starting to mod it.

I’ve thought about trading in my 8 for a 10. Honestly, for every good feature they have their is something stupid. For example the notchy gearbox and breaking gas pedals. I’d be interested in driving a new MR with the SST tranny. I especially want to see how the MR’s will handle mods. The 5 speeds seem to be doing very well with mods. I hope the same can be said for the MR.

I haven’t really seen others around. Haven’t been out of state with it. I brought it to Dunn Tire Raceway a few weeks back but haven’t had a chance to go there again.

Honestly, I love the car. I paid 36k, loaded. Sticker was 41k. I dealt with Ray Laks Mitsubishi. The salesman I had was phenomenal. Never once did I feel pressured into a buy or anything. He came in on his day off to sign the car over to me which was also nice (but I’m sure he made enough money on the deal to persuade him into work).

I’ve mainly been breaking it in I have about 2k miles on it. I changed the oil at 1500 miles. I haven’t tracked it (drag is nothing impressive yet, only a 13 second car) nor have I taken it to an autocross event. This is my first standard car, so I’m not as fast as I’d like to be on the shift from 1st to 2nd, and it’s tricky to launch, considering I don’t want to blow my clutch.

I take on ramps usually at like 60mph. I’ve never had a problem, my old camaro would have been sliding a bit.

I did manage to take a 90 degree turn at 45mph and that was the fastest I tried since I did feel a little bit of rear end fish tail on that, nothing insane to be honest but the handling so far is amazing.

There might be a few things I’d change but this isn’t an evo forum so I won’t go into much detail (if requested I can voice an opinion). I didn’t want the MR because of the SST. Paddle shifting may be the future but it’s not what I wanted. I love controlling the clutch and the gears.

Best car for the money in my opinion. BMW 135i is nice too but mods are expensive.

I’d like to take a look at it, see how it feels “loaded.” 36k is a pretty decent deal, you shouldn’t feel TOO swindled

Doesn’t the evo X have launch control? Foot on the brake and gas, release the brake and it goes?

I’d like to hear your “changes”

I’m down to ride. I frequent rochester alot too. PM me where youre usually at. congrats on the X

The evo x doesn’t have launch control built in. The SST might but I’m not sure about that either, haven’t paid much attention to them.

PS - It’s hard to keep your feet on 3 pedals at launch, considering one has to be on the clutch

I do wish the GSR had an option for leather interior. I really do like the leather recaros. The navigation isn’t the most up to date so far. Many convenient things (ie: restaurants, gas stations, etc.) are said to be built in but they have a minimal selection.

I would have liked the gas pedal to be made of aluminum or some other metal (lol) but before I bought the car I felt the pedal and its support is a plastic I-beam (sort of) and the clutch and brake are metal with a rectangular cross section.

The clutch is hydraulic and grabs almost as soon as you press on it. I would like for it to grab mid-throw but it’s not adjustable. It takes a bit of getting used to since I have longer legs and I have to bend around the steering wheel when letting the clutch out (if you can picture that - sorry for the bad description). If I move my seat back it get uncomfortable stretching my arms.

The boost pulls from about 3200rpm - 5600rpm. With a tune it can pull almost all the way to 7500rpm, but I wish it wouldn’t cost me $750 to get that tune. Also, the torque sucks on the low end. It’s supposed to output around 300 ft-lb of torque but you never feel it until the turbo kicks in. It’s a little upsetting on the launch for that reason.

I want to put some parts into it but with a new car I’m a bit undecided since I don’t want to void the warranty.

In a nutshell:
Clutch grabs immediately, minimal low end torque, nav should be well updated, boost tapers quickly, gas pedal support is made of plastic.

I’m being very picky on these things because I’ve spent so much on the car as it is but for the price this car is amazing. If I spent $2k under the hood for an exhaust, intake, and tune it would definitely be what I had hoped for as a stock machine.

Any questions or whatever - let me know.

I live in Geneseo right now (I’m going to school there for the summer and fall). If anyone is in the area let me know and we can take a drive. I’m bored as hell out here in farm country.

PPS - Premium gas is expensive, black interior and exterior get dirty immediately after cleaning them.

yours is black? there is a blue one in geneseo that ive seen. the dude works at advance.

Brian

Hmm I may have to find him and bother him.

3 pedals to launch? if you HAVE to break there is on in between the seats but to properly launch an awd car you need to slip the clutch not jump off the brake.

True, but he made it seem that in order to launch the evo x, you hold on the brake, rev the engine, and release the brake (much like you would on an auto car).

To launch the awd you do just have to slip the clutch after a decent engine rev to get your boost up.

Since the advanced is 2 mins from my house I took a drive and didn’t see an evo. I’ll keep my eyes open. I need someone to drive with now that my friend bailed on me since his shifter sucks. None of my other friends really care about cars though, what a bunch of losers.

It’s supposed to output around 300 ft-lb of torque but you never feel it until the turbo kicks in. It’s a little upsetting on the launch for that reason.

It is kind of hard for your motor to make torque with no boost…

Every Evo has launch control. Push in the clutch, put the tranny in 1st gear and make sure your not moving AT ALL. Floor the gas. It will hover around 5000 RPM. If you have a boost guage you should see that your motor is making a slight amount of boost. Quickly (don’t drop) release the clutch pedal. If you smoke the clutch your letting it out too slow. If you bog (your percieved lack of torque) your too quick on the pedal. You should easily be able to cut 1.7s 60’ times stock with those tires.
