Actually, I own the best selling production sports car in the world…considering the Z is the best selling sports car in the world, and the “ugly” Z31 is the best selling Z-car ever. Really says a lot for your eurofag theories right there. No, a slight gain of negative camber isn’t an issue, but ALL of them with a ~20mm drop do gain some negative camber. Like I said, it comes with the design of the suspension. It doesn’t matter if its a Eurofag POS like a Porsche 944, a Z31, an E30 or a GTO. Once you understand this, the better off you are.
With ~1" drop a Z31 ends up with ~-1.9-2 degrees of negative camber, stock camber in the rear is ~-1.4 degrees…its about .5 degree increase in negative camber. However, 2" pushes them past ~3 degrees. I use the Z31 as an example only because its what I know numbers off the top of my head for, BUT semi-trailing arms all work like this due to their pivots. Maybe some have less negative camber gained initially than others, but they ALL suffer from negative camber gains when lowering.
Here’s a few things that you probably won’t understand.
This thread is about a 20mm drop on a GTO.
No one cares about Z31’s, you use them as examples because it’s all you know… which is why you should stay out of other threads where you purely speculate based on stupidity.
This forum does think they are ugly, you can even go back and search for the thread where everyone made fun of you.
And sorry, the Miata is the best selling sports car of all time.
Sorry, but there were only 309,305 Miatas from 1990 to 2003 in the US. there were 270,000 Z31s from 1984 to 1989, not counting 363,748 of the 1970-1978 Z-cars, 100,000+ of the 79-83 280ZXs, ~89,000 of the 90-96 300ZXs, and 150,000+ of the 350Z…
And I’m sorry, the 1970-1978 S30s were the best selling of the Z chassis’, but consisted of 3 different models…so still, the Z31 wins that on a single model.
The Z-cars surpassed 800,000 cars before the Miata even existed. The miata is hardly to 500,000 cars yet (US numbers for BOTH cars)
If you’re going to split it up by generations and claim the Miata still outsold the Z31, you’re wrong. First generation miata (1990-1997) sold 215,364 cars. Z31 is ahead of it by nearly 60,000 cars.
Anyways, I’m done bickering with you. You’re clearly a retard who thinks he knows more than he truly does.
OP, if you’re worried about tire wear and traction while accelerating, get something to adjust the camber back to ~-1 degree. It’d still handle pretty decent for what it is without compromising much for straight-line traction and tire wear.
Mind you, I’m on 18’s vs. his 17’s, but you get the idea.
Oh, and @ Z31 - my post was to point out that even at full-droop, the camber change isn’t that bad and that the camber curve wasn’t large enough to make a 20mm drop a major issue. -1.5* when lowered isn’t bad, as Pedders’ recommended rear camber is -1.7* +/- 0.4 and OEM was around -1.2 to -1.4 from what I can find.
Oh, and perhaps part of the reason why GTO’s don’t have as much of an issue with camber when lowering is the fact that the rear track is almost 10" wider than on a Z31 - hence the larger camber curve.
What was a bigger issue is that the spring pad is a bit inboard on the control arm, so spring sag on the OEM springs is magnified a bit. So even “stock”, some cars get a bit more negative with age.
And regardless, with stiffer springs in place JayS probably has less of an issue with dynamic camber change than stock.
Thanks. Not usually, but I was on maple this AM, following a green 3 series with black rims and an innovative sticker across the back window. What it you?
Fine if you remember to clear both side windows since you spend half your time looking out them while going “straight”.
I’m sure making the small amount of clearance I had before a little bit less isn’t going to help, but my commute is 2 miles 100% inside Amherst and they do a real good job with snow removal.
Haha when going straight! Thats funny. I can’t wait for the snow to start flying and sticking! i want to see how the car is in the winter! Should be fun!
I have no fucking clue how much camber is in the rear, I could give a fuck, when the insides of the tires start sparking, its time for another pair of Sumitomo’s. Fags
