First it was D2’s… then it was Megans… then all this other bullshit… Godspeed, Form & Function etc. etc.
But i think we may have finally reached the bottom of the totem pole because i dont think coilovers can get much cheaper than this.
Introducing, MDU (Master Damper Unit)…
Yes, genuises came up with that name…
You will find these creeping up on EBAY for $600 + shipping… they end up being about $650 after shipping but then there is the dreaded customs… so Canadian could expect to pay $850+ (CDN$) if ordering from the US…
i can offer them for $700 picked up and $750 shipped.
Yes, that is $750 or less for a brand new set of coilovers.
Features:
-
helper springs (front and rear)
-
adjustable dampening
-
adjustable front camber
Key points: -
Height is NOT adjustable by adjusting the lower bracket. The lower bracket is fixed, therefore height is adjustable only by lowering the spring.
-
The pistons are 20mm front and 12.6mm rear (measured with my mic beside a set of Megans, the piston diameters are the same on the Megans and the MDU)
-
although the coilovers do not have full dust boots, they do have bump stops which the D2’s did not. These have bumpstops on all 4 corners. Megans are rear only.
-
The d2’s were stupid in that the bottom of the studs in the top plates actually point loaded on the spring. These have the proper collars and rubber seats to reduce noise and spring pivot.
These are actual pictures, the first set will be worn on Hectors S13 from Mild2Wild Customs, he’ll be at the Niagara meet. I will have one other set on display at the meet.
These coilovers are available for S13/S14 and 350z. They are available for R32 (non GTR) but only the previous generation that had issues with the piston seals.
these coilovers come with a 1 year warranty. In order to make use of the warranty the damper must be returned to the original importer in California for rebuild. I have asked that if we do a decent volume if i can stock the dampers, i dont see that happening in the short term.
If you have questions like:
“what is the bushing, rubber or urethane?”
or
“do you have a shock dyno”
i will not take these seriously because if you cared at all about those things you wouldnt be considering a $600 coilover.
These are strictly for budget builds and not for any sort of competitve track / drift car.
SPRING RATE: i have not been told what the spring rate is. i have inquired and am waiting to be advised. These are not a very hard spring rate though. If you want stiff you should be getting stiffer springs. the spec of the spring is the same as most other aftermarket coilover springs so you can upgrade at any hot rod shop.
