Yeah, but the market’s not saturated with them yet, either…
I don’t know how anybody can say how they will hold up yet as the damn things have only been on the road for a year or so now. :gotme: I’m sure it’s a great truck, but I think the general perception is “it’s Japanese, of course it’s good…”

The Tundra now = the T-100 & T-150 of 2001-2007. With major revisions of course.
However, You still see 80’s & 90’s Yota pickups running round all the time. Granted, they were “mid” size pick ups equivalent to rangers / S series.[

It’s a matter of what appeals to the market that buys it. In this situation, Toyota knows what they are doing and need to do. And are prepared to make the required changes at a faster pace than Chevy or Ford can.
Most people don’t buy trucks, or SUVs to go off-roading and haul tons of shit around.

WINNAR!
F-Series (which includes F350 and above even tho they are technically a different class altogether) sales equal roughly ~950k / year.
Tundra sales were ~120k (IIRC) last year.
First model year out and Yota is selling 13% of what Ford does for ALL of its pickups (1/2 ton & up).
i can’t wait until one of these AMERICAN TRUCK 4 LIFE people buys a tunda and 2 years from now i can bump this thread and laugh

Your arguments of logic are wasted on the anti-japanese-truck crowd. They’re just going to get all pissed off and start rattling their cages until you give them a banana.

and. LOL.

exactly… watch that best motoring video of them trying to kill a toyota pickup.
they may be new getting into the bigger truck game, but japanese auto companies are not new to trucks. they will own the market soon just like cars, thank you US unions.
ive seen a lot of domestic cars die way before theyre time.
my girlfriend has always driven beaters. One of these beaters was a 2001 for escort zx2 ~75k. thing was a crap-shoot of a car. also had a 97 taurus ~110k which fell apart pretty hard.
she has since owned a 92 accord with 180k on it (bought from 93dx–hatch) and now has a 93 sentra thats over 150k. No car was any better then the other. They all have issues and they were all falling apart. But there was one difference between them.
the import cars all have almost twice the amount of mileage on them as the domestics. Thats the deciding factor for me. The import cars just lasted longer and drove better in their old age.
my bro owned a full sized gmc pickup he hated it, sounded like a tin can when you closed the doors. traded it in for a titan and couldent be happier, the quality is 50x better.

Titans are sweet. I would get a Tundra or a Titan to tow my boat…when I buy a boat.
Its blind import love that pushes these sales as much as anything else.

again, the bottom line is sales. Much as i love yah mark, sales decide the bottom line. Also, as Chino said, the unions make for a huge blow to the Big Three. As much so as the competition.
We’re sayin the same thing Nick. It has very little to do with the quality of a current vehicle, and almost all to do with the rediculous reasons people buy cars: its cute, they heard its more reliable from the other fat office women they work with, they believe their hybrid is saving the world, whatever.
a 1994 ford escort applicance has nothing to do with a 2008 domestic vehicle, but people will still make their decisions based on it.

I’d drive any car which appeals to me. Look at domestics though. I can get a very, very nice Lincoln LS say 2002-2003 for say 10K. You can’t touch a 03 lexus/bimmer/volvo/type car for the same money. Am i bias? yes, I love my gm’s. Are they better then anything else? Probably not. Are imports general better? also probably not. I have personally owned more then 3 gm trucks with over 150K on them and they ran/looked fine. Do imports do it more often? maybe, maybe not. I haven’t seen any study which proves anything…and any studies which are done are in one way or another funded by someone else. So its a Catch-22 and we all suck! so there
i think toyota is going to be hugely popular in the truck market. I have driven all of the trucks on the market. the tundra kicks ass. it rides great and has a great turning radius. not to mention it is a HELL of a lot faster than anything ford has - the powerstroke GM 6.0 is nice though. I don’t like the dodge.
08 superduty 6.4 > all untill toyota enters the ring.
I own a 01 silverado and I love it…But I must say I love the look of the new tundra’s

I also owned a 01 Silverado HD 2500. That 6 liter knocked so bad it drove me crazy. I begged GM to help me. I got so tired of people asking me if it was a diesel! (it wasnt) I hated to do it but I bought a Nissan Titan. 9 months, great truck. GM needs to take care of long time ( 7 GM’s) customers like me or they will lose more share to the japs.
