Newman's 1986 BMW 326rb build thread.

Dan Marino: Hey Ace, got anymore of that gum?
Ace Ventura: That’s none of your damn business and I’ll thank you to stay out of my personal affairs.
Dan Marino: You’re a weird guy, Ace. Weird guy.

The only reason I ask is because I used to have a 79 Camaro that was gutted and had no HVAC what so ever. I had wipers but if you drove down a wet road any steam that would come up from the hot exhaust would fog it, if it got cool at night on a humid night the windshield would fog etc. Rain X would help. Sometimes windows fog up when least expected.

walmart sells a cheap little electric heater for cars. might be a good idea to hardwire and tuck up under the dash aimed at the windshield for emergencies.

Brian

pm turbo ss ls1 he is putting a heater in his car jsut for defrosting purposes. maybe see what he plans on doing

A friend of mine fab’d up something like this in his 70’s beetle so he could drive it during the winter lol.

If you wanted to, small C5 aluminum heater core, some aluminum ducting, and a small electric fan.

Would you need the heat though to get rid of the fog or would just air blowing up at the windshield work?

The heat, blower on the windshield doesn’t do squat.

I never thought about it to find out. My car automatically turns the AC on whenever I turn it onto windshield defrost.

Newman I got a really small heater core if you wanted to do something.

Supposedly the freon in the air helps defrost windows…probably because it de-humidifies the air.

edit: I don’t think that’s right…The A/C freon is in sealed tubes…I think it is the fact that it’s pulling in outside air that helps. That makes sense since it seems that cracking the windows in the car usually helps a bit too.

lol, its because the AC cools the air before it gets heated up, which in turn condensates any moisture out of the air. :highfive:

Looks like it is progressing very nicely. I would stick with the bare aluminum for the gauge cluster though. I think it fits nicely with the rest of the car.

just insert a fan and blow some heat from the exhaust up on the windshield

I hear that is works ok, for the Locost (catherham) cars. Im building one and this is how i plan on dealing with the regulation that i “need” some sort of HVAC and wiper system.

Keep up the AWESOME work newman!:burnin:

best idea yet. maybe use an electric exhaust cut out to control when its used. Figure a 3" opening pointing up will suffice

I think he should worry more about getting the car on the road than getting some fog off the windshield, at this rate this thing will never see the road. :poke:

X…

SRSLY, my 240 had no HVAC or even windshield wipers and I even drove it in the rain a few times…

No heated seats?

Last night’s progress…

So if the wiring is all finished(or almost), when are you gonna fire her up?
