Next big Purchase: Automagic

TH-400 & A gear vendors O/D unit. That way you could have a bullet proof race transmission and overdrive for the highway.

I wasnt a big fan of my car that had 4.11’s and a TH-350,40mph @ 2500rpm’s…55 was like 3500+ :(.

Although,im sure you’re not running 4.11s and a 15in tire.

Auto is the quickest way to times but I think you you get really bored. Fuck you could drink Timmy Ho3’s while running 9’s at the track lmao!

^ the mans got a valid point  timmy ho’s ftw

If the car is quick enough you won’t get bored with an auto…

autos might be faster and more consistant but that doesnt mean you cant go fast with a 6 speed, im gonna say keep the 6 speed.

throw an auto at it. if you get bored with that i’ll drive the turbo you can drive my beast on the bottle.

4l80e

DO IT

NOW

3 speed auto w/ electronic OD FTW

:word: my impala has one, it sort of sucks not having a 3rd gear on the highway

and small blocks

These 10.5 cars are not street cars…they run 90/10 drag shocks…a lot of pinon angle and a lot of other tweaks…

The auto in turbos case is easy step to get the 60’s down…

Let me try to clear up a big misconception between 2 & 3 speed’s, both trannie’s have the same final or top gear-1 to 1, the difference is the is the 3 spd’s have a 2.48 or 2.52 1st gr, 1.50 ish 2nd gr, a great setup for cars in the 10-12 sec range as u still have enough gr to get a 3500lb car out of the hole, & 3 diff grs keeps the motor in it’s powerband.

A 2 spd has 1.76 or 1.82 1st, & goes straight to high gr-1 to 1. When u get above 800 hp w/a small tired street car, u don’t need alot of gearing.

The 10.5 tire’s r also 33" tall:cool:

I was thinking the powerglide plus the gear vendors O/D… but I think the main advantage would be the OD between low and high… which would keep the motor in its powerband without losing much RPM.

Then of course OD for the highway… but he isn’t using this tranny on the street, so he doesn’t need it.

Thankyou, i hate when get this wrong. 800+hp does not need the 1st gear of a th400, the torque and hp will get it out of the hole just fine

I know the 10.5in cars are straight up drag cars, but I was just making the point about how surprising it is what teams can do with so little, years ago no one would’ve tried to hook 2000hp on 10.5in slicks.

And wouldn’t 10/90 shocks and maybe a drag 4 link make sense for turbos car? That is a serious question, not being a dick.

because its a street car…

a street car with 1000hp though…

why is everyone saying th400 + GVOD Unit?

Thats like $4000 for the whole package?

The 4l80e is an electronically controlled TH400 WITH OVERDRIVE, and it weighs alot less than the TH400/GVOD package. And its a hell of alot cheaper

you need the trans controller too but thats not too hard. that trans with a few tweaks can take 1000hp with ease.

brian

I clearly said glide.

You can get HP Tuners to control a 4l80e
