The Ravens were 3-13 last year, they very well could have been. Bad example.
Either way, its about time something remotely related to luck went against the pats. The horseshoe they had up their ass for about 5 years would take about 10 more years of bad breaks to even out.
Winning your division has always been important in the NFL. It means you were better than (presumably) 3 of your biggest rivals and gives the playoffs geographic diversity. The Pats could’ve dropped 8 games and won their division last year. Things tend to even out over time. SD missed the playoffs in '05 at 10-6. One thing you can’t argue with is that they have the TALENT to be there. They lost 4 games in the last 20 seconds and 7 games by <7 points. They can hang with anyone in the league.
Yes, and everyone was miffed in '05 were they not?
I didn’t say the system was flawed. I said that there were teams that had better performance and arguably deserved a playoff spot more than the Chargers which by your own admission are there right now just to provide “gerographic diversity”.
Plenty of teams have the TALENT to be in the playoffs, not all are fortunate enough to have such a weak division. No one expected the Chiefs or Raiders to do ANYTHING this year and after about week 2 it was apparent that the Bronco’s were one of the bigger joke’s in the league as well. The only reason they were anywhere is because the Charger’s stunk it up like a baby’s diaper in August in the beginning of the season.
In my opinion there are more deserving teams of the AFC West’s playoff spot.
In my opinion they are going to lose to the Colts who are on fire and always capable in the playoffs.
I wasn’t the one that brought up the Patriots, that was Jay.
I figured when you said the system was almost as bad as the BCS, you implied it was flawed
Now that thing is a real piece of shit. I’m sure the computer rankings would have you in over Miami though.
 Lord knows the Pat’s certainly had their string of crappy luck this year!
Luck may help you one year, but doesn’t help you dominate as the Patriots have since 2002. To try and deny the caliber of the management, coaching staff and players and say it was luck is just pure stupidity… no matter how much you don’t like them.
There will be scenarios in every system that are “unfair” to someone depending on your view. This isn’t elementary school, not everyone gets trophies. The system is what it is, the Patriots weren’t consistent this year and that is what hurt them. Getting blown out one week and blowing out the next ultimately is going to cost you the tie-breakers that you need if you’re going to try and grab a WC spot. It’ll be interesting to see what happens next year.
Anyway, this was about this years playoffs. Like I said, my “desire” is to have a Titant/Falcons SB. But I think it is likely that it could be Colts/Giants. You never know in the playoffs though.
Ah yes, this year’s playoffs. It is that time. I’ve officially resurrected my Jim Mora voicemail, just in case anyone forgot.
AFC, I’d obviously like to see SD make it. After them, anyone but Tennessee. Dirty team, don’t like them.
NFC, I’d probably like Carolina the best. I like Arizona, but I don’t think they have a shot. Atlanta would be cool too. If not, anyone but the Giants. Fuck Eli.
Agreed. For them to go 11-5 without their God, Tom Brady, is fairly strong evidence of a solid team, in and out. You will never see me argue against the talent and management on that team.
I agree, I hate Eli and the Giants. F-Them. I just don’t care for Mia/Pitt/Indy/SD due to the rivalry so I don’t care to see them win. I think Indy has the strongest chance to make a run the way they are playing. Without the start they would have had another #1 seed locked up. I don’t think the Titans are playing strong enough to finish what they started.
I like Atlanta (not just because I live here) but I think Ryan coming in and starting all 16 games and the job Mike Smith has done is really impressive from a turn around stand point (although there have been several teams that have done that this year). They are fun to watch since they have a multi-faceted offense, I don’t like to watch running teams .
I just REALLY hope the super bowl isn’t Titans vs. Giants. That will be as bad as last year’s for me.
On one hand, you have my most hated player in the league, Eli, for obvious reasons.
On the other, you have I think the dirtiest team in the league. In 2 games last year, they managed to injure Merriman, Rivers, LT, Gates, and Jamal Williams, most of which were on questionable/dirty plays. Some of them are still hurt. Haynesworth got what was coming to him this year, though he deserved about 5 more bronco-style chop blocks.
I was totally wrong on the first game, i thought that the falcons were gonna pull the upset, and they looked like they were on their way towards the end of the first half, 2nd half tho was a totally different story haha And the Chargers game put a smile on my face Told ya they match up well against Indy! Great game that was!
Vikes special teams including punter- if your bus slid off the road and plunged into a river and you all died, you would not be missed. you fucking suck. cant even cover a punt return. and who gets a job as a professional punter and cant kick the damn ball more than 30 yards?
