Night of Stalking/monthly meet/cruise.

I was quite disappointed in the Night of Stalking that we where supposed to have this weekend. I was there @ 5pm and drove around twice. By 6pm there was only a whopping 5 people. So I left and went to Kelsey’s @ 7pm. Not a bad show of people. The Cruise which was a disaster! I mean after jasper it was me and another spec. I mean this was so badly organized. I have been to every meet and almost every major event since I joined this club and it seems that less and less people are showing up. Even the boards of directors aren’t making appearances anymore. I am just trying to figure out what’s up.

The board was all there with the exception of Aaron who is in Europe and Kris. We should have had maps for the route. I think they would have helped a lot. We are also trying new cruises this year. Last year we kept the same route everyone knew it, and it had few lights, but it was boring. This year, we wanted to change it so there was a new route every time, but it has caused some problems, so we need to work on that.

For numbers, it was almost the biggest meet yet, just one or two cars short. So we had a good turnout, there is obviously lots of interest.

We are also doing a lot more events this year than in the past, with track days every month. That requires a lot of time from the organizers, and we all have full time jobs, so we can’t be at every meet. We are always looking for more help though. If you have any suggestions we’re always open to them.

Ok… Sorry… I’m always willing to help. My first club meet was the Alberta Wide meet last year and that sold me on N-E-C-C… and since the that time we have cruised twice. This one and the Last one which didn’t go so well… I wasn’t around this time last year. Myabe I’m over reacting i don’t know.

You were at least three short. Aaron and Kris as you mentioned… and myself. :stuck_out_tongue:

You’re not overeacting. We do need work on it. They are very tough though, as traffic and lights are very hard to control. People are always going to get separated from the group. It’s inevitable. But maybe some “checkpoints” and a map would help that.

We had 22 or so cars last night. The highest I remember is 25 I think, not including the Alberta meet of course. It would be insane if we could get all our 80 or so official members out for one cruise.

I really need to start coming out to some meets. Every single time something is going on I am usually busy or something is wrong with my car. Are there ever going to be events on saturdays? Thats one problem that I have is meets at night on sundays, because its over and I still have to drive 200kms to get home. I was going to be there yesterday but there was an after-grad the night before and I didn’t wake up till 4:30 sunday afternoon :partyman:

Yeah the cruise did get split up pretty bad. I did alright with the group I ended up with, couple Subarus, mine and Norms 240’s, Kris’ 180sx, and Nick’s (did I remember it right?) Pulsar.

I think the problem though is starting the cruise in an area saturated with lights such as downtown. There is no quick road out. If the cruise started maybe at a truckstop like Roadking out by the park on Yellowhead, or the one on 170st and 118ave, we could get onto some more major roads easier and with less lights.

Another thing I thought might work is to have some waiting points along the way. I was thinking as we went down Whitemud that it would have been nice if people had waited at Henday and Terwilligar for the rest of the cruise to catch up and then keep moving as a group.

Wow… NECC is up to 80 official members already? That’s easily surpassing the Z Club now… we peaked at ~ 92 members I think back in '98 or so. Now our “paid” members are around ~40 or so (the so-called regular actives), with another ~20-25 or so that float in and out. (ie. might renew one year and then not see them for almost 12 months, etc.

close…Steve 's Pulsar! The cruise did get broken up but I really liked the route!

I like the how my car is invisble… no one ever remeber the god damn altimas… It got split at the train tracks on 77 and where the hell did you go dave when we hit the Bridge?

I will take the fault for this, as i should have made some maps or posted some on the site. However i do have a fulltime job and cant dedicate as much time as i would like sometimes.

I did learn a few things from this meet and cruise, and will be changing this up next time. We will not be meeting downtown but some place such as Whitemud amusement park so we can avoid lights and such.

Sorry about the organization, next meet will be better.

I also take some blame, because time constraints on my life are now seriously affecting my ability to help the club out. When you only have one day off a week it’s pretty difficult split up all the things you need to do into reasonable chunks of time. Hopefully now that I live in the city I will be able to help out a little more. :?

I watned to go so bad but my grampas birthday and a family reunion happens on the same day same time frame. it wasnt one I could miss either as people from china and all over canada came =(.

I really wanted to go and join Copper in the cruise.

GTIRs represent

To be honest, it wasnt that bad considering we do have lives…

Yeah I’m with Ryan on this one, we get a “member Survey” of what we think of the club and we are told that everything is going to be a lot more organised and last night’s cruise was terrible, everyone leaves the parking lot at Kelsey’s in two directions and that was the end of it in my mind. At least when we had the Red Deer Nissan meet everyone was told “if you want to speed down to Red Deer your not with the Club”, we get up near Commonwealth Stadium and I see a couple of the 240’s drifting the corner with the Subaru’s nothing crazy, but still…

Let’s say we were to have a Night of Stalking and a monthly meet next month, things need to be getting organised now. Not a week or two before the meet, there needs to be a map of the way we are going to go, it would take all of five minutes to plan one out on Map Quest and post it on here.

03sunburstv (Mike) this was his first cruise, if this was my first cruise I would seriously debate wheter or not it would be worth it for me to come out for another one, this was my second, the first was the Province Wide Meet, sure it’s a lot different cruising down a highway with no lights but there was at least some things that were made clear, you want to speed go ahead your not with the club. When you have NECC stickers on your car you are representing this club, and that needs to be respected. If this was not a cruise and a race to see who can get to the West End the fastest we would call it the monthly street race.

Who decides who is on the “Board of Directors” and what exactly is everyone’s designation/job on this board, and when there is a “club meeting” why isn’t anyone who is a member allowed to come and listen and have their input as to what is going to be done or the direction we all would like to see this club go.

I just want to see this club be everything that it can and should be, we have a lot of official members, I mean if there is over 80 official members why is there only like 25 guys comming out, that is just under 25% of our “official club”. I’m not trying to bitch or anything I just think that there should be things like:
flyers printed and handed out at meets to flyer cars if we are stalking or just crusing, and if not handed out at least a scanned flyer on here that we can print out and bring to the meets so we can flyer cars, we should have an “official NECC frequency” that we use everytime we cruise so that everyone always knows what channel we are going to be on". We should always plan on cruising somewhere to have some dinner or meet at kelseys and eat before we cruise or even meet at UC on Sundays, or have that a a “check point”, Calgary Trail is right there and so is the Whitemud. I really just want it to be something enjoyable where new guys to the club come out and actually have a good time and also the long time members.

Sorry if this post is gay, but I pay a membership fee and I just want to enjoy being a member of this club. I can cruise the city any night I want, but I would love to be doing it with as people as possible anyhow this is the end of my semi-rant.

1- The crusise wasnt terrible, the location where it started was bad. Regardless of where we left the parking lot together or not the cruise would have got split up pretty quick. I realiize this and will change it next time.

2- The night of stalking isnt usually my event and the other board member couldnt make it. However there was someone at hawrelak from 5:00-6:45 and we all of about 4 cars there… We may have to reconsider whether we even want too do this event because the support was lacking.

3- Before we evn got to wayne gretzky drive we stopped 4 times and crawled along at speeds of less than 40 km/h. Once again meeting downtown is a bad idea…Hindsite is 20/20…

4- Actually the board of directors were partially voted in and a few were appointed based on their commitment to the club. If anyone wants to come to a board meeting, please feel free to ask one of the directors and we can let you know when the next one is.

5- Your concerns will be taken into account for the next meetings and events. If you want to help let me know.

That’s the reality of “clubs”. The Z club is no different, nor is the RX-7 club from what I’m told. Its always going to be that way with volunteer organizations. And don’t forget, this is a “hobby”.

I myself haven’t made it to very many NECC meetings, but that is mostly because Sunday is a horrible day of the week to have them, IMO. It’d be different if I was single… but for married folk, sunday evening is not the best night of the week to be leaving the house for “car stuff”, especially around a time that can overlap with supper time. I’m sure it’ll be even worse when I have kids.

This past sunday was especially bad for me as I just got back from a 2-day driving school in Calgary the previous weekend followed by a week down in Dallas for ZCON 2006, and just got back into Edmonton on sunday. That was certainly enough car stuff… my wife wouldn’t have been impressed if I went out for a few hours that night for the meet (ie. MORE car stuff).

Are you every going to have a re - election for the board of directors or Add new members?

We’re found Sundays to be the best for the majority of or members, so we’ve stuck with it. Obviously it doesn’t work for everyone, but it seems to be the best for the demographic. Most of us don’t have kids, or even wives for that matter. :stuck_out_tongue:

As far as an election, its something we have to do, but we havent set a date yet.

hawrelak was bad as I was there from 4-5:30 and it was so packed. no where for everyone actually to park together
