Update:

The past few weeks I have been battling a rough idle, cylinder 1 wasn’t firing at all. I did ton’s of troubleshooting, coil packs, ignitor chip, ECU, wire harness, TPS, CAS, injectors…ect. The details are too much to go into here but they are on NICO the forum under RB engine thread. Anyway, the problem could have been a couple things that I fixed, poor ground for the ECU harness/engine block, faulty injector harness (frayed wires), and/or bad ECU (the injector harness might of damaged the ECU). The #1 injector was getting all the proper signals but not enough current, all the other injectors ran perfect. So after I fixed the things listed above I plugged in my Power FC and it runs PERFECT!! The car has never ran so smooth as it does now :banana

I have to finish a couple small things in the engine bay then I can finish up the Silvia front and get this beast back on the road. I’ll get some pictures uploaded tonight.

Just took the car out for a quick spin, it’s running real nice, power all the way to red line (always had a small lack of power at the top end) and the VLSD is giving me lots of traction, even with shitty tires. I took a short video with my digi cam of the car just idling and a short rev and will post that in the morning. Couldn’t get any videos of driving but I’ll get some tomorrow if the weather it nice.

Another done-properly 240, rare but sweet!

Looks like it’s come along ways and well worth the wait, yes? I’m eager to see what I should have done in the first place (rather than an SR20…)!

Update!

Ok so I ran into some problems:

  1. My sister smashed her car up so I had to rebuild the front end on that, so that was priority for the past 3-4 weeks.

  2. The FPR was incorrectly set and timing was off by ~5deg so it was running lean and after a quick rip around my road (didn’t know it was lean) my exhaust manifold and exhaust housing on the turbo was cherry red hot!

  3. Fixed the timing/fuel lean condition, installed a z32 maf in a blow-through setup, ran my BOV to atmosphere, and it ran sooo good until -pop-. Sounded like a small vacuum hose popped off as it sounded the same time as I shifted. It still ran but no boost pressure. So I checked all the hoses and everything was fine, idled nice and revved smooth under no load. Turbo wasn’t red hot. Took off my intake pipe and saw this:

The blades on these turbos are ceramic so they can’t take a good beating, but I think when the turbo was red hot it reduced the lifetime a lot. So I’ll have to get another turbo, the turbo I really want is like $1300 and I’m just trying to get my car back on the road, so I’ll get a stocker for now.

I’ll be shooting primer on the car this weekend and some other small body work too. I also built a 12x20 paint booth so I don’t have to use so much plastic to cover everything.

Another turbo should be here Tuesday. Primer is all finished, hoping to get the single stage paint done by the end of the week.

Whenever I look at the busted turbo I want to throw up.

Yup same, Black. I just have to paint a door and the trunk lid and it will be ready to bolt all back together. Some areas the paint is really good and other areas it’s meh… but I’ll fix it later I just want to drive this thing!

You should of seen me vacuum the hot pipe and the end tank on the intercooler… the compressor wheel was in millions of pieces! The exhuast turbine was also MIA. No pieces either… really weird. It probably just shot out of my exhaust pipe.

Thanks, before I got this car I really wanted a 300zx TT, just couldn’t find one that wasn’t beat on and in my price range. So I settled for the 240.

Hey man, looks like you and I share RB woes…

I searched around for turbos and was told the “Disco Potato” GT28R was the best bet, but I also located a pretty little thing called the “Baby Kahuna” and it was only $850.00. I can’t remember the site I found it on but Chris Rando (Transformer Audi TT) gave me the site. I’ll see if he can help out. He knows a boatload about turbos and such.

How did you convert to Speed Density? I want to do the same.
