Nissan Dead? Honda Takeover?

I’ve been seeing posts on X about this, now it’s in the news:

“We have 12 or 14 months to survive,” the senior official told FT. “This is going to be tough. And in the end, we need Japan and the US to be generating cash.”

I’m not even sure who the current CEO is, but I do know Carlos Ghosn has a respectable track record. I’m more inclined to believe him:

In an interview with Automotive News, the former Nissan CEO alleged that Honda was plotting a “disguised takeover” of Nissan and Mitsubishi, noting that Honda was the biggest of the three Japanese automakers.

“I can’t imagine for one moment how it’s going to work between Honda and Nissan unless it’s a takeover, unless it’s a disguised takeover by Honda of Nissan and Mitsubishi with Honda in the driver’s seat,” Ghosn said.

Putting out absolute trash CVTs that make your vehicles basically disposable for a decade will do that. When I started shopping for a car for Jill I couldn’t believe how cheap 50-60k mile Rogues were but then I found out why. By 80k the car has about a 90% chance to need a new CVT that costs more than the car is worth.

My only experience with CVT was in multiple generations of Subaru Legacy that my mom has/had. I found it entertaining in the snow with traction control off. She never had issues with hers but she usually gets a new one every 4-5 years.

Question for the more savvy people here as I’m late to the investing game. If one were to buy Nissan stock and Honda took them over, would Nissan still exist? If not, what would happen to the stock?

I have the Nissan ARC business plan on my computer but it’s too large to upload it.

basically they are cutting production by 20%, doing mass lay offs, cutting the maximia and other cars and leaning into EV’s… soo… bankruptcy imminent.

Yeah, I don’t hate CVT’s… but the one Nissan puts in their small cars is known to have a ridiculously high failure rate. The 3.5 with the CVT in my old Murano was one of the smoothest daily driver powertrains I’ve driven.
