no casino for Buffalo.....

?

but… but… the lower west side is coming back with a vengence!! Look, it only took 10 yrs to get Richmond cleaned up!! Like 4 whole blocks of it too!!

EVERY TIME I read a thread about failed policy I do some quick calculations on what it would cost to unhook, rig, transport, re-hook all of my equipment.
I want to move my company to Reno in a bad way.
It would be much easier if I just had something like a pizza oven.

This political region will go down in history as being the most corrupt and ignorant in US history.

I have actually thought about starting a small machine shop in Reno just to get started out there, then move my entire operation.
99% of my business is outside of this pathetic state anyway.

Reno, huh?

<insertbrotheljoke>

Short drive from Tahoe. I like the way you think.

As looney as you may seem at times…

The “Save Buffalo” Crowd needs to realize that ALOT of small to medium sized business have these feelings… and it’s not just spitballing conjecture.

I wish someone would work to WELCOME business to the area, but that would disturb the grain elevators, the common seagull, the historic yet baron dirt, or some other bullshit.

The casino is not the city’s savior, but it IS another SHINING example of the short sightedness of the WNY politicos.

meh.

Unless you can provide some proof of that cap I’m calling BS. I’ve been searching for it all morning and haven’t found anything that would indicate there is a 7 million dollar cap.

Nevermind, I finally found your 7 million dollar number:
http://www.ci.buffalo.ny.us/Home/Archive_Press_Releases/Leadership/Mayor/2006_Archives/October_2006/AGREEMENT_ON_SALE_OF_FULTON_STREET

$5 million - $7 million worth of infrastructure improvements to City-owned lands around the Buffalo Creek Territory to be made by Seneca Gaming Corporation;

Also:

In accordance with its Compact agreement, the Seneca Nation pays New York State a percentage of its net slot machine revenues on an annual basis.
The State then returns 25 percent of that amount back to the host community for each casino.
Last week, the Nation presented New York State officials with payments totaling more than $68.3 million representing its slot machine exclusivity payment for 2005 from Seneca Niagara Casino & Hotel and Seneca Allegany Casino.
It is anticipated that New York State will then return $11.3 million and $5.7 million to the host communities in Niagara Falls and Salamanca respectively. Seneca Nation and Seneca Gaming Corporation representatives estimate that, once the full-scale Seneca Buffalo Creek Casino project is completed, the host community in Buffalo will receive between $5 million and $7 million in annual revenue share payments, giving the City a new source of much-needed revenue for future economic development projects.

So they were estimating 5-7 million a year for Buffalo back when the Seneca’s were building a 125 million dollar casino. There is no cap. And that number would be much higher now that they want to build a 333 million dollar casino.

DO SOME FUCKING WORK SLACKER!

 I’m leaving for lunch in 5 minutes now. When I get back I’m disconnecting myself from the interweb.

So the state gets a percent, and then we the host community gets 1/4 of that? Our government is too big. There are too many chiefs and not enough indians.

:uhh:

Actually they only expect it to balloon to about 7 million max.

I’ve pumped >$400k back into the Dept of Education books so far today.

What have you done?

:whip:

Also, please stop lumping me in with the preservationist crowd - I am against them 95% of the time.

I was for the hotel, for panos (I just think he’s an asshole), and for just about every other responsible development proposal.

This deal just does not make sense… Jay, how about you give me $20, and I give you back $2… I mean thats a great deal right? Because noone else has given you money today! Its revenue!

I am OK with the casino, if we get a BETTER FUCKING DEAL. As of right now, they will BLEED WNY FOR HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS.

And your argument is that “development has to start somewhere”?!?!? Give me a fucking break.

tom - what are the realistic annual expenses faced by the city if the casino is built?

I assume that you know, based on it being one of your main points.

I am a product of NYS policy. (insert insanity smilie here)

that wasn’t directed at you. It was directed at the human almanac

+1

i think you mean ‘any’ casino

i love going back to seneca allegany. i even wear the shirt from there. i’ll never play, though…

thanks for helping put my dad through college, gamblers

Read this again

I bet that if the casino gets built, we will be seeing a lot more vacant buildings in the nearby area.
