No More Filibusters

It’s about time. Over 7 months later. 60 votes it is.

Yeah, checks and balances are dumb.

so do we get the change now? I was told there would be change.

The proposal in the Constitution for unlimited debate on an issue was never meant for the minority party to be able to read phone books to prevent stuff they don’t like from getting passed. There’s a difference between checks and balances, and obstruction.

But who gets all of the cots?

ORLY?

YARLY.

They’re donated to Mel Gibson and Homer Simpson for Mr. Smith Goes To Washington 2

Im pretty sure he meant in regards to filibusters :gotme:.

And I thought it was embarrassing to live in NY?

Coleman just conceded. 7 months late, but at least he’s gotten his ass handed to him in court enough times that he didn’t want the SCOTUS to laugh at him too.

So glad complex constitutional law can be so easily summed up by “YARLY”. :roll2:

Crying about checks and balances because a party lost the ability to filibuster is lame. The filibuster is not a check or a balance, it’s a cheat regardless of whether it’s coming from a elephant or a donkey. It only still exists because the alternative of a law that limits the amount of debate an issue can be subjected to is even worse.

So, like I said, YARLY!!!

Are you going to order them pizza?

So who are the dems going to blame now for nothing getting done???

The republicans.“If the republicans hadn’t made this mess, we wouldn’t have to fix it.”

Party politics arguments are such a waste of time and distraction from real problems.

See: NYS Senate. :picard:

Its funny. When a republican jumps ship to go to the other side, he is a hero and the President speaks highly of it.

When state democrats jump ship to go to the other side, they cry fowl, lock out the others, and go to court to fight it.

Party politics are ruining this country.

See: Jeffords, Jim. Your side did the same thing.
And with NYS, they didn’t just switch control of the Senate. They took advantage of a loophole where we have no Lt. Gov to gridlock the whole thing. It would be like having 50 votes on each side in the Senate, and no VP to break ties. You can’t do anything on either side.

It will be more interesting to see if the dems will show some balls and actually take advantage of this. So far they really haven’t flexed their muscle like the reps have done in the past.

Public Option Health Care here we come!

Yeah, we really took on a lot of moderates from conservative districts to get this majority. The Republican caucus when they had control whipped their members into voting far more conservative than their respective districts to get their agenda passed, and it cost them control. This congress seems determined not to make the same mistake and lose their majority, but as a result even with 60 in the Senate it’s tough to get the whole Dem coalition on board for anything. Health care might be one of those things they have to suck up and put through, and hope that the results turn out good, or else they’ll water it down and pass a weaker bill in the interest of saving their own jobs. Having Baucus at the head isn’t a good sign, he’s conservative and from Montana.
