Sunoco 94 has always been a scam and a waste of money unless you are tuned specifically for 94, even at that point if you’re tuned for sunoco 94, you’re probably still better off with a Shell 91.
More octane doesn’t equal better or more power. More octane only means more resistance to detonation. If your car was designed to run optimally on 89, then anything more, is making it harder to burn…literally. your car will be slower and more less efficient. Plus, if you take away all that ethanol they dump into sunoco 94, guess what octane you now have’???
I dunno, I’ve always run my cars on 91, 92 when it was available. Always made jam, never had an issue.
Richer doesn’t necessarily equate to better. Shell has additives, namely its nitrogen enriched formula. Sunoco takes 93 octane and adds 10% ethanol to get 94. Even without the ethanol, it would still be 93. The Sunoco 94 would burn a little quicker due to the ethanol.Perhaps the ECU didn’t have enough time to properly adjust for it, and it was running the same duty cycle as it would with the V-Power,but the fuel was being burnt slightly quicker, resulting in more of a leaner reading.
At the end of th day, the 94 does have a higher anti-knock rating, and one should be able topush their car a little more than the V-Power without knock. If that wasn’t possible then it wouldn’t have a 94 rating.
It wouldn’t matter how hard you push it man. If it’s tuned for 87 you can redline it all day long and it won’t matter, (in terms of detonation). If you throw 94 when it’s tuned for 87, it will be SLOWER! Guranteed. The only time you need more anti knock properties is when you’re tuning for it.
All that Ethanol is NOT good for aluminum cylinder heads mang. Corroooooosssssiiiiooon.
As an experiment, I challenge all you dudes with stock like setups that currently swear by Sunoco 94 to a Placebo Test. We’ll have 3 different gasolines in three different jerry cans. I’d LOVE for you to tell me which one is actualy Sunoco 94 once it’s in your car. I’ll bet…some BBS Meshies. hahahaha.
Yes, that was what I was implying. You can push a car more with 94 than with V-Power 91.I could have been more clear, but I thought that it was implied, since when most people tune our cars it is tuned for 91. One could squeeze out a little more power with the 94 because of the higher anti-knock properties.
Most people don’t do that. Most people throw 94 in their stock car or factory tuned SR/RB/Whatever when it’s OEM tuned for 87(min) 91(optimal) and expect to make more power out of it. Or even people putting 94 into their KA’s or stock D16Y or whatever shitty old tech.
Seriously, if i was to throw 94 octane in my 5.0 with the timing set for 87 octane, the shit would would be noticeably slower. especially down low.
Japan doesn’t have an 87 or even an 89 equivalent octane gas. They use a slightly different measurement, but their lowest grade is higher than our 91, with their highest grade being better than our 94. I wouldn’t run anything less than 91 in an SR or RB. It was never designed to run on octane as low as an American engine for example.
I believe in Japan it is 98, 100, and 104 octane measured in RON.
LOL are you serious? A gasoline focus? I use Jet fuel in my diesel truck…i get it for free (benefits of working on jets). Running it in a gasoline car, thats the worst idea ever. Even if you are confusing it with AVGAS…80/87, 100/110, 100LL, 115/145…whatever. Even thats a stupid idea. The lead in any of these fuels will clog the fuck out of your valves, sensors and cat if used for long periods of time…or left to sit in the engine, which is the case for most of us. When i used to track motorcycles i’d use leaded race fuel but after every track day u need to make sure the tank is empty and the carbs have no fuel what so ever.
“Feint
I also did 460 km with an RB25 on and off boost on 94. My fuel gauge doesn’t read at all, so I can’t confirm how much mileage I can get, however, I think I can pull off at least 500 km.”
Fuck im heavy on the gas still. Im getting around 400km on 91 from Esso with an RB25 too. Im gonna switch to v-power myself, I really didn’t realize what ethanol did…nothing lol.
uhh, so i dont know if you guys heard about it already but its sunoco who bought petro out… its just cheaper for sunoco to change all the sunocos to petros because they have more petrocanadas than sunocos… but the former sunocos that are being changed to petro is keeping the ultra94, not so sure about the old petros carrying 94…
A sunoco in Brampton on Queen was turned into a Husky, and a Sunoco at brittainna/creditview beside the Taco Bell still has 94 octane but is a Petro Canada now
