Northstar leak, Blah

Well my girl friends 94 Eldorado just hit 89k and the cat was toast. replaced it and just finished putting in new plugs and wires. OUCH it was running real bad, 3 of plugs were so discolored from arching, blah. Anyway when I was doing that I noticed that there is alot of oil/greese buildup on the driver side near the powersteering pully and near the valve covers and downward from there. Pretty much everywhere from slow leaking over the years. It’s nothing major yet, but I wanted to know if anyone knows if there is anything on these early northstars that is known to start leaking, I.E. cam seal, valve cover gaskets, head gaskets???

There are TSBs for oil leak at the upper to lower crankcase joint, engine oil cooler lines, oil filter adapter, rear main seal, lifter galley plugs.

There was also a recall on the oil cooler hose, appearantly it can rub on the A/C clutch.

I would degreases the thing and see if you can get a better handle on where it’s coming from.

ok thanks, I’ll look into it

yeah, pretty much every seal on that motor is known to leak.

its a GM

its one problem after another with u

right…
if it isn’t leaking a little then it’s not working right.

It’s nothing major, it’ll go 2k easy without needing to add a little bit of oil, but still it’s there. Might as well know whats up.

she still pulls good from 5200-5800

sounds like p/s shaft seal

can you take a pic?

could be just valve/cam covers too

caddys definately leak every fluid under the sun when they get older
