What did you guys expect to pay for a $35k car? lol Also, are you guys that upside down on your current vehicles that you can’t put any money down?
What’s the point of me just dropping a grand to lower my payment $15 a month? I already pay $550 a month for my current vehicle. It’s not that I can’t pay that kind of money. It’s the fact that I just don’t want to spend $600 a month when I can get a mortgage for a few hundred more a month. Asking to get the car for 34,000 didn’t seem like asking too much considering the invoice price is 32k.
Dropping a grand? I would think that a proper down payment would be much more substantial than $1k.
So first you say they’re the only dealer you can find with one in stock, then you get pissed that they won’t sell it to you below sticker?
selling it for 2k over invoice isn’t going to make any money for the dealership
Not calling you a liar, but is this REALLY how it allwent down? If so, that’s pretty bad. I had a less than thrilling deal on an '08 STi there a couple years back, but it was nothing like that…
I was looking at a car there, found a better deal on another car at another dealership, so I called the guy back to let him know I was no longer interested. He asked what I got, and for how much.
He called me back a day later and called me a liar, saying he called the dealership I went to and the price they gave him over the phone was higher than what I told him.
i worked as a lot man at northown toyota / vw for a few years.
80% of sales people are turned over pretty quick because they get burned out early on or make no money and get shit canned by the sales managers. The 10% that are lifers make most of the money in the dealership because they have built up a client base over time, work 9am-9pm most every day and know how to close deals. most of them would rip off their own family to make a buck as well, its just the way it is.
taking your concerns to management wont help much either. youre just a bottom line to them (especially since they get a cut of the dealership profits as part of their compensation.) you wouldnt believe the things they say about customers when salespeople bring them offers they dont like
they are all pretty much scumbags as well. at toyota for example, one was having an affair with a title clerk and ended up divorcing his wife to marry her, and another I saw cheating on his wife, making out with a 23 year old secretary in the back lot on more than one occasion.
also, the young guys that act like they know something about the sporty cars on the lot dont really know shit (with a few rare exceptions)
Its mostly a crapshoot, especially if you are looking for a semi-rare car like an sti that they know they can milk more than a standard optioned impreza or legacy
^You’ve just described every new car dealership on the planet.
Incredibly accurate.
^every sales position ever. lol
I’d like to think I am not a scumbag manager :dunno:
Ive had good experiences at Northtown Subaru and Volkswagen (Leased a 07 Jetta). Rolled up in my 04 stratus and test drove a 09 WRX (back when they came out). I mean the salesman rode with me but I still got on it with no problems. We talked numbers and I told him I had to think about and was out of there in 30 minutes. Also leased a 2010 Impreza for my wife with no problems. Got what we wanted for what we wanted.
i actually know of a case of this. lol
That was exactly how it was when the STi’s first came to the US. Thank the douchebags with crooked hats for that who were completly blowing it out their asses and just trying to go for a test drive and crashing them.
I tell stupid people to fuck off so what they told you is the sugar coated version-I see no problem. So the person who wasn’t going to make any $ basically told you to leave-SHOCKING.
Why are people so fucking stupid?
There are two things you cannot cure in retail sales.
People being poor and ignorance.
sales staff = irrelevant
experience = who gives a shit
price you are paying for the car = all that matters
They should be mother fucking you as you are driving away in your new car. If that is not the case you left money on the table.
STi WRX few and far between these days. Supply versus demand means paying close to sticker.
I was there today trying to work a deal. They were very polite and nice to me. They were however not willing to give a good deal by any means. However it is decent and I am trading in a car. They deff did not give me back my keys until I asked about 6 times though. Was really strange. Do all dealers so this? lol
This is just sick. I would’ve taken a picture and sent it to his wife or something.
Obnoxious, but a well rehearsed tactic I’m sure. Car dealerships are not for the timid, on either side of the sale.
To Beck’s point about him not being a douche, I feel bad for him for being a decent guy in that business. For every shitty salesmen I’m sure there is a shitty customer who thinks they can get 20% off for being a dick to the sales staff.
I bought my last new car by:
- Test driving one to make sure I like it.
1.5 Selling current vehicle privately. - Find a couple of dealerships with the model I want on the lot (can’t be too picky on color, spoiler, etc)
- Getting salesmen from each dealership to put their offers in email, then forwarding them to each other giving each the opportunity to beat each other. Whoever gives the best deal wins.
