Is this the motor that dempsey put in last year?
Detonation hurts. :sad

Don’t quote me on it but I think so. :ponder He had mentioned something about GS doing the assembly and someone else doing the install. Name slips my mind though
Byrons sti was running great at the track
^ya, best time so far for him, i believe. 11.65 @ 12x (can’t remember the trap but the ET is definitely right…)
122 i think… his car is the only Subaru ive seen up there that gets out of the hole cleanly… no bog, no bunny hops… just goes.
Yea 121 or 122. It leaves the hole so clean
did something happen to your car? pete pointed it out to me and i saw it on the side unattended after turning around after my last run…
Byron was saying he was going to LVD tonight, summed up something like “I’ll run it hard on the torco map like I have most of the summer and if it blows up, ohwell” Fun words to live by…seems to work well for him. ~500 all-wheel torque helps him get out of the hole pretty good :ninja
were the wheels still on it?
tranny went ka-bang son… i gotta get it home, hopefully tomorrow then i can start investigating.
Every time I log on here this thread isn’t in the “new posts” list but I finally found it.
If I didn’t tell anyone no one would know there’s anything going on with my car.Wed. was my best-11.60 @122. I was pretty happy. The motor is no big deal really, just 15 PSI down in cyl. 2. Who knows why. Maybe lined up rings, maybe a crack like rick. IDK. My pistons are the 100mm and that seems to be one of the downfalls of the rebuilt blocks. I always knew I was going to have to pull the motor again, since this one was a rush job we never did any head work. I just didn’t expect to have to do the block again. Here’s a quick list of what’s going in this time:
New EJ257 block case
CP Pistons 8.5- 9:1 CR
New Crank
Carillo Rods
ACL Bearings (rod and main)
Subaru Gasket Kit
Balance and all machine work
Valves Springs with Ti retainers
Kelford Cams 272’s
New SS Exhaust Valves
Head surface
New Buckets
11mm oil pump
We’re also talking about longer rods and custom pistons so we can rev it to and make power past 8000k.
We’ll see.
Good luck - I’m going to be out on the town Saturday evening in 'toga, would you want to have a beer or two?
thanks for the offer but I have our last auto-x in the morning so I’ll be packing the car and trying to get to bed early.
:wow
8000k
that’s like 8 mil rpm. :rofl
:tong
Byron…better include cross drilling the crank if you plan to spin in that hard for extended times.
and yet even more reason for me to dislike subaru…
Justins even(left side) head…the one that had the blown cylinder…note the discoloration in the first pictures to the right of the red outline(dark spot)…that my friends is filler material…AKA weld. It’s even more apparent in the second clip. The part that pisses me of is that this is straight from the factory like this. An apparent defect(crack, porosity, etc) was detected, welded, and machined into a new head going on a factory’s flagship car instead of tossing the core into the furnace.
The welding and overall machine work is sound aside from a slight sharper edge in the combustion chamber on #2(remember, the one that popped) but still just makes you :wtf
holy shit these dohc motors really do have a reason to be shitty now suby itself …the ej sereries of motors suck compared to the old ones holy shity
Who cares Seeing Byron’s car run 11’s all night is cool. Things break when you want to go fast. It’s nice to see a Subaru fag that’s not scared to drive his car hard.
None of these guys are scared to drive their cars hard. With the exception of Byrons car, they just cannot manage to keep them together. That’s the topic at hand :ponder
:+1 my car saw 6500+rpms daily (7k rev limit)… she went 12.3 @ 111 and had several 150mph+ highway pulls… i was NOT afraid to drive my car hard in the least… i just cant manage to keep the car running longer than 8-9 months at a time without catastrophic failure.
haha, Didn’t mean to get yall riled up. I was just kidding. It just seems like I always see people scared to launch thair cars at the track. I was not talking about anyone specific. Good luck keeping your cars running.
