heh… yeah they only lasted for 2 minutes worth of burning…cheap shit goodyears… :haha… :sad
im sure the rotating assembly is good but i wouldnt trust the block it was under full spool for awhile then on fire then quick cooldown im sure the integrity of the metal is comprimised as every sal is either burnt or sucked in …but yeah almost every 2.5 dohc motor we run across at the shop is in some form or another fucked motor wise evo>sti :nod :cool
This thread is for broken Subaru engines and why 4G63’s rule. Nissans and drag times need not apply here, you’ve got enough threads littering the forums… ;D
4G63/4B11>EJ257… sti suck… why couldnt they just take a lesson from porsche on how to build a good boxer engine
i dont know how bad the block truly is… i think it could go one way or the other… it was under some stress before the fire, but the tune was safe and shouldnt have stressed that too bad at all. the only thing id be worried about is any fire damage…only time will tell…
I’d be more concerned with the metal annealing(molecular “softening” process essentially) and then being quenched by a massive amount of water. I would be surprised if the case has cracks or risers as a result(unless they used AFFF to suppress the flames) Unfortunate. Rotating assembly sure to be fine, just best to get it open soon and coated. Block is surely filled with water(melted PCV system = 5 holes for water to enter.
A-fucking-men :nod …And because Porsche like to sue copycats and patent/comyright infringements :crackup
thats what i meant and they doused it wit water to put it out …so im sure metal is shot
:ohnoes dont be jealous :nana :lol
im sure hes not :stfu
I’m not
:lmao
and your avatar :haha
damn dude, #4 looks ROUGH! im hoping its a good decade for audi motors crosses fingers i hope i wont have to buy a whole new block any time soon!
+1
Rick’s had all sorts of trouble with his car - pretty soon, he’ll be competing with jay for the most # of built engines
Tell him and Byron I said hey
For certain. Rick and Byron stopped by today and chatted it up. Rick is purchasing new OEM casings and 99.5mm slugs for a new bottom end using existing rods and crank. guy is right on the ball with this once in a very timely manner. Car should be back up and running within a couple weeks. He’s going to hold off on having me rebuild the tranny for 5th gear due to the recent increased cost of this issue, understandably so.
Told him I’d sell the Eg33 to him to “drop” in(jokingly of course), however if Subaru just built their EJ’s as well as they built the EG half the problems you guys currently succumb to wouldn’t be a concern. Or if suby would just make a cast iron case, or redesign the case through-bolt setup for true closed deck, or…or any of a million other things :ninja
Fred @ Capitaland told me him and Byron stopped by this afternoon to order some parts.
Yeah, as soon as they left the shop they stopped by to talk with Fred and order some necessary OEM parts(bolts, gaskets, etc) and then headed to Dom to talk about a block/pistons he had lying around FS. Rick called me later today to say he ordered a new case set directly from Subaru along with a hose of ARP stuff and wiseco slugs/rings as Dom’s price, while still good was just more than he could afford right now. He’s just waiting back on my mic results from the crank/rods and then he orders the bearings and he’s goo to go again.
