I searched around and didn’t really come up with anything. Sorry if this has been covered before.
My brother was wrecked into a couple weeks ago and im looking for some advice in dealing with the insurance company. The other driver was determined to be at fault and his insurance is taking care of everything. The car is a 95 civic with just about every bolt on available (engine and suspension) they said its going to be a total loss. The body and interior are both real clean and it has new paint from when i bought it about 3 years. The guy i bought it off of kept all his receipts and i have all receipts from what we’ve done to it.
Being that their client was at fault what should i expect them to cover? I realize im not going to get close to what was put into it but are they responsible for a certain percentage?
They will cover the replacement value of the car if it was stock. if you wanted them to cover all the accessories you would have had to pay a higher premium
Does it make a difference if its not my insurance covering it? I would understand if i was at fault and my insurance would only cover the value of what i have insured.
This is prob what ill end up doing. But they gave me a ridiculously low offer first go around.
you wont get shit. buy the car back for a couple hundred bucs.
i did this before. i had cam, headers, blah blah in my formula and it was totalled i bought it back took the drivetrain and interior and sold it to jj’s i got about what the car was worth after all of that. i think i got 4 grand for the car and it was worth probably 7ish at the time.
When I wrecked my Jeep, I was given retail value (also deemed not my fault). Looking back, I should have bought it back for the $1400 they wanted for it and parted it.
My insurance covered up to $1500 aftermarket parts without extra coverage. All I had to do was provide proof of purchase. I know there are different options including wheels and motor modifications for most insurance plans.
I’m not 100% sure, and you insurance company may be different, but They gave me a hair over $10k for my 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited with 106k miles, and they wanted $1450 to buy it back, and it would have required $9k or so to fix it.
usually what it would take in at an auction with the amount of damage thta it has.
in 03 i had a 94 firebird formula lt1 6spd in great condition that was totalled in a head on accident and the let me buy it back for like 400-450 bucs forget the exact amount it had
good drivetrain
good interior besides air bags
good wheels
good t-tops
good everything besides front fenders and forward
sold the car for 2 somthing after gutting the interior and drivetrain. best deal ever period
I had a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited, 106k miles, minter than mint condition for the age and miles - Slid sideways into a telephone pole, crushed the rocker, kinked the roof, and smashed in the pillar between the two side doors. It was going to cost around $9k to fix, but the insurance company wanted $1400 to buy it back - huge mistake not buying it back. The engine, tranny, axles, front clip, all lights, entire drivers side, and rear end were still mint, and about 90% of the interior was still mint. Just the two doors on the passenger side, pillar, and rocker were trash. I probably could have made $5k or more if I bought back and parted.
