Not sure this is a good idea...

Does anyone here own a Sentra Ser Spec V?

I’m looking at buying one and there are alot of mixed reviews on them.
I’m looking at a 2003. I’ve driven one and although the ride is a little rough I don’t mind it. It seems to have some power and there are some easy mods that should put it above the 200hp easily enough.

What are your thoughts?

Never driven one, but they seem like good cars. Like you said, decent power, a bit sporty, and are probably reliable.

A little ugly and kind of an economy sedan so don’t expect a great/luxury interior, etc, but I don’t think they’re bad cars at all.

I’m curious though what negative things did the reviewers say about the car ?

My friend has one and I’ve both driven and rode in it. It’s a nice little car. He’s had no major problems with the car and it has quite a bit of spunk.

Persoanally I think the styling is a bit drab even on the older model cars with the riced out front bumper.

Overall the performace was a lot better than I expected but not nearly as fun and tossable as my 240. You can however fit two people in the back seat

talk to nocwage … he has one and loves it.

Brock

I read that they are very harsh riding and that they have some issues with the fluidness of the trans. There are some minor recalls, mostly with wiring (soldering) issues but basically stuff like head lamps and fog lights.
I think the SeR is 175 hp with 180 ft.lbs of torque and the Spec V is supposed to have another 10 hp and 9ft.lbs of torque, along with a 6spd trans.
The one I drove was pretty snappy, but because it was snowing and no major highways near by I was hard pressed to get it out of 3rd with any rpm behind it.

I have driven a few of them at work and I must say they are nice little cars, they have a respectable amount of HP and torque, they hadle prety good for a stock suspension and the style is nice too. They are prety reliable as well and the cost of insurance is usually not that bad on them.

These are the two I have available at the current time.

If you like one of them let me know I could get you a deal on which ever one you lilke best.

My first “new car” was a 2001 Sentra SE… not quite the same punch as the SE-R, but I absolutely loved that car, and still miss it to this day. I rear-ended someone with it and put the SE-R bumper on it with a custom license bracket, check out my long lost baby:

 Hopefully a 300hp 240 will make me feel better.

Like Brock said, talk to nocwage, he has one. I’ve been in it. Drives beautifully, not at all what I expected from a family sedan. City driving or back roads and hilly runs, car is fun as hell.

Nice car Jesse.
I have checked into a header, 2.5" exhaust and air filter.
Along with new iridium plugs and bumped up fuel pressure it should be just over 200hp.
Then maybe an ecu upgrade…

one of the guys who works at mssc has one, its sweet. LSD pulls you out of corners rather than most FF cars that plow you into them.
I’d get one for sure if i could ever stand driving a fwd car

ty you’ve been talking a lot of shit lately again what gives?

its because your too far away to beat me up tehehe

i dont know meng, maybe its YOU thats been talking LESS shit so it makes it SEEM like im talking more?

My parents bought one in 2003, a spec V…

It’s entertainingly fast, but not a rocket. It turns well at speed, with a nice compromise between handling and comfort, but you have to fight it while accelerating out of low speed corners, the HLSD makes it hook up but you better have it pointed in the right direction. The brakes (non brembo) are similar to stock 240 brakes. The 6 speed is neat but kinda unnecessary, I think the normal SE-R with a 5 speed would be perfect if it had a bit more power. Horrible shift linkage compared to the 240. The spec V has a sub in the trunk already, so its a bit less practical in that regard.

What you have to worry about with these cars:
Pre-cat self-destructs, ceramic bits get sucked back in through the exhaust and takes out the motor (Nissan was covering the motors out of warranty, but I don’t know if they still are). This was solved sometime in 2003
There are other things to look out for, go to http://forums.thevboard.com and lurk away…

Also check out http://www.b15sentra.net huge community there.

i have a '04 1.8s …
although to motor isnt the same, the qg n qr motors are pretty torquey.

the chassis is very firm, though not refined however in my opinion. really fun to drive n push hard.

though if your looking for style i think ur looking the wrong direction, its really bland, though nismo skirts are hot or a mustang front skirt would look real aggresive.

the interior is mad ugly imo, plastics are real cheap n hard. other then that its pretty decent

I test drove one, hauls arse, fun to drive, ugly exterior/interior. Best value for the money though, if I was getting a new cheap car, it’d be it.

I know some of you don’t like the looks but I kinda like it…
It is a 4dr and I said I’d never buy a 4dr but my gf (soon to be wife) and I are talking kids, and the only 4dr out there that is really sporty (and a Nissan) is this… That’s reasonably priced that is.

All I want to do to the appearance is tint out the windows, darken the rear tails, maybey get halo’s for the headlight…maybey… and paint the rims black to match the body colour.
I’ll likely drive it stock for this year… get used to it, maybey dyno it just for kicks. Then next year add the header and exhaust, filter, ecu, ect and see what it makes next year.

I think it would look hot with the only other colour on the car being the badging…

Oh Ya maybey an F1 wing on the back for some serious down force!!!
JK!

If you want an SE-R spend the money and get an Altima SE-R its a much better, much sexier car. And the Sentra has the worst gauge cluster in the world.
