"Notebook" computers?

I’m thinking about picking up a couple of these for my mother and girlfriend this Christmas, they don’t do any leet haxoring or gaming, just write papers and surf the net. Here’s one I found in .0001 sec of searching, the price point is around what I’d like to spend per unit.

I have no idea if this is decent or meh. Pros? Cons?

My buddy has one that he uses for just the same things, surfs the net and writes papers. He never had a problem with it.

8.9" screen is tiny but personal preference. Look at dell or best buy. They have some 13-15" laptops that are 499. Think if staring at a portable DVD player and trying to read the screen for hours.

Basically, the same thing. More memory, though.

 Invisible karma for you

The screen does seem like it would be a little small though, hmmm :meh:

we have asus Eee PC’s at work. people complain about the keyboard being small, but they get used to it. Everyone also requests a seperate mouse with these. The preiinstalled linux is great. we use them with open office.

Tom, you could always use a seperate mouse/keyboard/monitor for it when she’s at home.

Maybe ebay? You could probably find something used for a good price.

hit me up if you need anything. Just about any PC you find will do exactly what you need it to do just fine. One thing worth mentioning, I believe those netbook laptops (mini’s) don’t have optical drives, so factor that into it as well.

Interested in a desktop at all? or a laptop only?

It is supposed to be ultra small. Hence it has a small lower resolution screen. If you are just writing emails its fine, it probably gets old for browsing the web if you are used to higher resolution monitors. They are great for what they are from what I hear. Most have built in card readers, USB, etc already. I would pop for the 1GB models.

the original one comes with a Linux distribution…I’d advise against that unless you are comfortable with linux.

The link I posted is the XP model.
