now car wont fire

Installed new lifters, put the lower intake back on, adjusted the rockers, put the upper back on.

now im trying to time the car. the car gets spark and fuel, but wont fire.

i have aligned tdc on the balancer to match the 1 on the distributor cap. im totally lot. ive tried 90 out, 180 out, 270 out, nothing…

help!!! flashlights in a week!

There’s a blue oval somewhere on the car…the answer is in the oval. lol

is it backfireing or having any signs of spark

double check your fireing order, and there are two different firing orders for the 302 make sure you have the right one

did you tighten down the rockers too much and the valves arent closing?

are all the injecters clipped in? check the compression maybe something with the rockers.

sory to hear that you are haveing bad luck i hoope that you can get it figured out as for me i have the over heating problem fixed replaced the water pump and intake gasket and now it runs great stays cool and the timing is actually set now lol and i HAD to replace the head gasket cause when i was tightening down the intake i was on the last bolt and it snapped off in the head so i had to take it off to drill it out and tap it from the back side. anyways later man hope you get the stang running im taking mine to the track next weekend

we went 1/4 turn past 0 lash

no backfiring. sounds like it would as you normally start it. cranks but wont turn over. plugs are wet and we are getting spark from the coil.

someone said to check my intake gaskets. i guess thats my next plan of attack

is there gas in it;)

um. yeah.

hey you never know, i mean you do own a mustang after all :stick:

I know this isn’t going to help much but even if there’s a leak in the intake gasket the car shold still start, it’s will just idle like garbage. If the plugs are wet and you have spark coming from the coil take the cap off and make sure the rotor is making contact. If so then test for spark at the end of each plug wire. Sounds like you’re losing it somewhere after the dist.

i was told the rockers may be adjusted too tight. was told the same thing was happening with shaggy’s and quiks car, so i am trying to re-adjust them now

Good luck bud. I’m thinking you might’ve tightened them too much and the valves aren’t closing like was said here before, but Mike helped you with that and he’s incredibly knowledgeable, so I dunno.

I going with the rockers are too tight. I have adjusted them when the car is running and if you tighten them too much the car will drop rpm and bog down if not stall out.

Car would still fire up (or at least backfire) even if they were tight. Highly doubtful that would be it. Seems like a timing issue.

I just got on here now after all-day thrash on mine. If I would have seen it sooner, I would have called ya.

If ya still don’t have it running by the morning, let me know. I’m not gonna get this fucking nitrous system done by next Sat anyway.

Quik came over and helped all day. loosened the rockers a bit and it fired up. sounded like shit. but it ran. we then tightened them down again and i still got that ticking kinda sound in the rear driver side. so i dont know. quik and I were thinking bottom end. but i gotta get a filter tomorrow and try one more time…

HUUUUUGE thanks to quik

bottom end? not a sound that’s easy on the mind

331 or 347 sounds good to me. prob sounds even better to my credit card company

sorry to hear its still acting up tho chad :frowning:
