NY bill for single license plate

Someone will argue public safety and reducing the effectiveness of plate readers on cops cars/highways/and other places.

Or go the other way and argue some wireless solution that replaces license plates entirely :tinfoilhat:

Well they already pull Ez-pass transponder info at all kinds of random places that have nothing to do with ez pass

If I could take off all my plates, save money, keep me from having to go to the DMV, and just use my EZPass I’d be in. But this bill isn’t about saving money / adding convenience…

I wonder if this applies only to the “new” style plates. If I drop a plate off the front, how will an officer know I paid unless he pulls me over to check.

Could be a clever way to pull people over… “Just need to check your documentation on the front plate…do you have anything in the car I should be aware of?”

Most cops really hate pulling people over. They hate having to fill out paperwork even more. It could be possible that the higher up’s want them to pull more people over, but the cops themselves probably aren’t looking for ways to pull people over more.

I really think that when a cop pulls someone over and he ends up letting them go, he’s probably just as happy as they are. He called in a pullover, but didn’t have to do any work on it.

He doesn’t like when we get our way, even if it costs us money. I’m not paying the $50 anyway, so it’s a moot point for me I guess.

There is no way to enforce this if it does go into effect, unless they force us to put a sticker on our plates or something.

who cares. does anyone think this really has any chance of happening?

None at all.

I disagree. Forget the benefit to car enthusiasts; this is about more money going to the government. I can’t see how they don’t do it unless a there is a compelling reason presented by law enforcement.

Put yourself in the shoes of a politician and ask “What are the disadvantages of this?”

I think it hinges on if enough Committee members decide this is necessary. This includes having enough citizens who support it enough to contact the Assembly Transportation Committee. What should really happen here is that someone should reintroduce the bill of dropping the 2 plate combo to this board. The emails are all listed right there, it’s a good way to counter this bill.

This is their sales pitch, hard to argue with it, but we all know it all comes back to $$$$$

  • A.B. 3671 would save money, conserve resources and bring New York in line with other comparable states that are moving to a single plate requirement.

  • The funds collected under the bill would be used to help provide emergency services.

If they want to be comparable, drop the 2nd plate all togehter. Use the money that they don’t have to spend on making said 2nd plate and apply that money to emergency services.

This is just a scam to collect even more money and provide no extra services, they are actually providing less here. They might have to factor in extra clerical for processing the extra application, but I’m willing to bet that number is a lot smaller than what it costs to produce the 2nd plate.

I have been running single plate for a few years. The only two places I get shit for it is my suburb hometown in Rochester with bored village cops and then Buffalo Parking seems to love to write me the parking ticket for it.

As for saving money, I would laugh at this if it saves anything. I am ok with paying $50 a year for this. Each ticket when I delay to pay it is $57 so this is one ticket a year that saves me money.

Thats it! We"re going offffffff the grid.

Yea. Welcome to free car tracking. I am glad I don’t have an EZpass. You drive around a major metro and its amazing how many non toll booth triggers they hit. They say they don’t identify anyone but with the correct information, you can correlate ids to users.

I haven’t run a front plate on my evo since I got it, no issues either. :dunno:
Would be cool if this passed through though

No issues with no front plate until I started parking in DT Buffalo. Overzealous Meter Maids.

YES. I drive through Kenmore, Ton, N Ton, and Amherst daily. No issues. Park outside of the wrong place in the city, BOOM ticket.
