Hopefully the course would help at least a little bit. It AMAZES me how many people have no idea what the green/red nav light means, or who has the right of way at an intersection (and how those two things relate). It’s easy stuff, I can teach it to you in 10 minutes and it would make a huge impact. There is one particular intersection at our lake where it never fails. I have the right of way, but the boat approaching at the intersection doesn’t do squat to allow me to go. I have to be the one to slow down and change course. Even when it’s dusk and he can see the red part of my nav light, which should be the indicator to him that he DOESN’T have the right of way. If you see my red light, then stop and let me go. Rocket science, it is not.
This image alone is enough to explain it all:
Even if you don’t understand the differences between an electrical fire and an oil fire, or what the different types of flotation devices are, AT LEAST know the damned navigation rules.
This is my biggest complaint. The douchenozzles in a cigarette boat or speedboat that decide to accelerate and maneuver to cut me off because they don’t want to cross the wake of a 14 foot utility boat.
