more like 500 a person BTW, maybe more it really depends on what people have already
looking at it more… its probably going to be about a 5000 dollar total investment

lol these rules are fucking great:
6.3: Why Am I Upside-Down? Rule: You’re upside-down because you have no business being out on a racetrack. Any driver who puts a car on its roof is out for the rest of the season, beginning immediately.
edit: seriously tho, have a 2.2L impreza we paid $400 for with $50 of junkyard parts (pretty sure we have receipts for this), need to swap out rear diff and axles, bolt up the driveshaft and it needs some form of exhaust (flexpipe?) and its good to go
edit2: since wheels/tires/cage/brakes are not part of the budget since they are safety items buy a set of 15" wheels, azenis, get a cage and some better brakes and it would be a pretty good competitor…
There is a noise restriction… so a muffler is needed
20 dollar clamp-on special at pepboys, no problem
I really dont think azenis are the way to go… they wont last that long… especially not a 24 hour race…
the key to winning this is about longevity on the track… and distance completed… whcih means reliability etc…
a good set of long tread wear all seasons would be best… that way your not cording 2-3 sets of expensive tires
you have to pit anyway… tires are extremely important. why not just swap sets. Id rather have a decent set of tires than junk on the track
gutted, of course
i may be picking up a new beater soon, if so, le cacord ftw
also, remember you have to pay for all the fuel that will be burned up
I think you are over estimated the type of cars/tracks at this event… im not taling about complete junk tires… but azenis are going to suck for $$ for this… kumho 712’s are cheap enough and last long enough
you still have to pit. I’m kind of looking at this as a money no object thing… even if an extra set of rims is 500 more… oh no… thats like 80 per person more…
Comp/max performance are way better than all seasons. and if its a free point… I would rather be competitive and have one rim swap than just going for the long haul.
Seriously it takes under a minute to change the tires…
uhhh, azenis are probably the same price as 712’s and are about 1 million times better… also i would be willing to bet a set of azenis would last the race, they’re not slicks…
they probably would… it would suck if you went to cords with 3 hours to go though…
meh, as long as they dont blow… and even if they do you could still win if you are far ahead enough
Count me in as a driver, already have a license.
don’t need a license
2.2: Driver Eligibility: All drivers must have a valid US or International driver’s license and a valid competition license (club memberships, rally licenses, and instructional licenses are not accepted). The ONLY acceptable competition licenses are: AMP, SCCA, Grand Am, FIA, NASA, NASCAR, CSRG, ARCA, WestCar, SRL, Legends/600, USAC, CASA, BCRA, BBORR, NCMA, MMRA, Barber Comp, CRA, ICSCC, HMSA, HSR, SVRA, and VMC. If you don’t have one of these, you’ll need to buy a 2008 comp-license waiver; these cost $50, are good for the 2008 calendar year, and are sold in the pits on Saturday morning before the race.
ok, so so far…
Id want at least ~ 5 drivers for this
thats ~ 5 hours of drive time for the event… which should be more then enough for anybody

eww no crown vic
My brother just did this in connecticut, i was supposed to be on the team, but I had an exam that weekend. Sucked.
He said it was awesome. Its an endurance race, most laps win.(for those who don’t click and read…) Get something reliable,a miata took first, then a bunch of hondas afterwords.
Oh and read the rules real closely, they can buy your car for $500 if they think its worth more than $500, you get penalized for having a car worth more than $500, etc. There is a lot of regulations.
Oh and they throw shit on the track, put up traps and what not, so don’t waste $ on ‘decent’ tires, just use junk.
