Some of you guys need to re-read what I wrote. I didn’t hide some hidden “I want more tech posts” meaning in what I said. Besides, you can’t decide how to get somewhere unless you first know where you are going. “More tech posts” is a “how,” and that’s off-topic to my reason for posing this. The administration IMO needs to decide a “where.”
Newman, I’ve got nothing against you - but the idea / image you have of this forum is the same premise that people wanted for the old site, and in the end it didn’t work. You’re proposing we offer nothing different from the other site.
If you want this forum to have a different fate then the last, you would have to agree that we need a different direction than that site.
This place isn’t for “refugees” and people who were banned or simply don’t agree with the way the old site was run. It’s now more active than, and has the potential to be better than the old forum ever was. I believe Howie and the admins know where they want to take this site, but they need to make everyone aware. The members should agree with and follow, or go somewhere else.
Although this is only an internet forum, it is run by my friends who spend their time and efforts to keep it going. And I want to see it succeed. I’m not “crying” about this site; I’m offering constructive criticism to avoid seeing my friends works die in vain.
How about you (NYSpeed / Howie) make the Off-Topic links lead to another domain, like NYOffTopic.com (it’s available), and then make NYSpeed.com a site that doesn’t tolerate ANY off-topic replies and threads at all?
I’d seriously consider starting an off-topic forum, but I’m not sure that I’d want to devote my time, especially when the off-topic sections here fill that need in my life just fine.
yea no one says to axe OT all together, it’ll still be there. this is why i think the idea of NOT having OT posts show up when you click “new posts” is a good idea. if someone really needs to get into OT that badly they can just click the direct link
Without OT what would we talk about in the winter :gotme:
As long as all the mods stay consistant with the rules and the banning I don’t see a problem. That was a big problem with the barf, the mods there def gave some people as much freedom as they wanted while taking a dump on people they didn’t like.
Ironically, I’m one of the people they let say just about anything.
Thats where my idea kicks in about the “new posts” button not showing OT. It kinda goes along with what Onyx said. First you have to determine the direction of the forum…which is safe to say cars. So, dont get rid of OT, just make it so it doesn’t come up with the main focus of the forum. AT LEAST GIVE IT A TRY. Then moderate the forums accordingly. Serious converation in the auto related threads (on topic posting) and laid back in the OT section
 It’s funny too, Joe never used to come here except to tell us that UBRF > NYSpeed but the post count keeps going in with greater frequency…
