So you are going to kill the resale on the Evo by driving 60k in 1 year, and its going to cost you a lot more to drive that 60k
you owe $10000 on your car
$20,000 for evo + $10,000 they have to payoff your bank = $30000
$30,000 - $2000 down = $28,000 = $550+/mth depending on credit
if your plan is to wipe your bank account down to 0 to payoff the gti and put a measly $2,000 (which will do NOTHING for your payment) down, you’re asking for trouble man.
im telling you… payoff the gti, SELL IT PRIVATELY, MAKE some money on the deal, and you’re gonna be happy with your evo you’re not paying $500/mth for.
buying a brand new car with $0 in the bank is digging your own grave.
My car has 90k now
I wont be putting as many miles on said evo, because I no longer go to school in rochester.
you just said that by this time next year, your car will have another 60k on it. When are you going to stop lying to us?
if you drive 60k you will spend nearly $10,000 on gas alone
@ 23MPG which you wont get you will need 2608 gallons of gas
@ $3.60 for premium its $9,300
Then you have to figure in brakes tires, timing belt which all cost more on the EVO
YOU SPEND $775 a month on GAS.
with a 300 car payment 100 insurance, you are already at $1175 a month.
Didn’t you have a WTF job thread like 2 months ago for a job that pays $10/hr???
@ $10/hr. you will only take home like $1200 a month
I have extra money in the bank, but in every equation, there is never the trade in value considered. I won’t be broke because of it, I no longer have time to hang out with my “friends” most of which grew up and moved on/away, and that was money wasted hanging out with them.
money spent hanging out with friends is NEVER money wasted. Money spent on a car that you do not need IS money wasted.
are you starting to understand this yet? if you keep the gti and pay it off, then it doesnt cost you anything, and you can save money for positive assets while still retaining a good, nice automobile.
Yeah, I guess 60k was a bit much, I got my car with 69 last june and kind of shat on the mileage.
I spend about 100 a month on gas, 300 for car, 50 for my phone.
I net 1k monthly so…1000-450=550 a month for food, fun and mostly for the bank.
it does sound like you can afford it, but I would save another $5K first. If you can put yourself in a position to put $5k down on a $20K evo (a pick of the litter for this money). then you’ll never be upside down on the loan. This will allow you get get rid of it at any point easily. I wouldn’t use the money you have saved up to make this happen.
but, if you going to spend more then 30% of your take home on it then forget it.
You know, you have a way nicer car now than I did at your age. I think the best thing for you to do would be to visit NYSpeed and any other car forum a little less. I think seeing other people’s evos makes you want want want.
At your age if you REALLY want to have 2 cars (a DD and a project) then your DD needs to be a beater than you don’t have a loan on. Your project should be another <$5000 car that you don’t have a loan on. This is not a limitation of your age, it’s a limitation on the fact that you probably don’t make enough at your age to justify a car payment and all the associated costs.
I did this and I know others on here who’ve done it. You need to realize that even though you want want want this certain type of car (this week at least) you don’t fucking need it right now.
Also, I can’t stress the fact enough that I FUCKING HATE MY VOLKSWAGEN. Nothing but obnoxious, persistent problems. The worst gas mileage ever for a car its size, and I basically have no back seat, something I really need more and more.
I figure if I fixed all the problems, brought it back to stock and sold off all the shit I have for it(which is pretty big money) I’d be able to sell it privately, but that could take a long time, and in turn leave me with no car for a while.
wow, 500 a month extra for food and bank? I spend around 200 bucks a month on food alone AT LEAST. so that leaves you with ~300 disposable income for saving. Guess that will go towards fixing your broken dsm and never leaving your house except to drive around all lonely in your sweet new evo.
there are so many nice cars within the $10k range that would probably be a blast drive and be reliable. Why not look into those options. Even spending 13-14k on a used wrx would be a MUCH wiser decision.
So you’re saying keep making normal payments on my gti and save up for a large down payment?
or dump a bunch of money on the gti to get more paid off and then save up a larger down payment?
I could wait till this time next year, I just want to get everything figured out, because if I’m going to get rid of my volkswagen for sure I’ll put stock suspension back on before winter so it won’t suck as bad for one more winter.
the big thing to read is don’t let yourself be upside down in the loan like happened with the GTI
I have like 3 friends now. srsly.
I spend most of my money on food on break at work which is about 25 dollars a week, so I guess subtract another 100, which leaves me with 400, and I’ve been averaging about 480 a month being put in the bank.
I really only go gokarting, and play xbox. In the summer most of my activities are free so it’s not really killing my lifestyle.
Thats what I’ve been trying to figure out, I was looking for info on this, but I got more of the “don’t buy a dsm” thing.
I’ve been making double payments on my car more and more. I really just want to make the car go away so I can move up to what I wanted in the first place.
do what you want, you apparently have already made up your mind without the help of this thread. You’ll just be a fucking loser kid with no friends but a sweet car. Sad sad lifestyle.
Welcome to my life since high school…minus the sweet car.
Why does everyone need to own a 30k car at a young age
