i just had the exact opposite happen in the office. A colleague took a look, said it looked great, saw people commenting in this thread and was turned off by that…

I guess the best route to take is have a couple options for people. Not the layout, but the colors. IIRC we used to have something like that back when NYSpeed started no?
I think it was done to hide the fact that you are looking at things for sale at work.
That is one of the options that we are working on right now. More color choices and more “graphical options” Most of the layout will remain, but we DO want to give you options.

No. It hasn’t.
It’s not an option simply because there is no option to use it right now. That’s about it. There will be more options but no one is going to stress themselves out in the immediate future (next few days) to accomodate 1% of the forum.
It’s not a snubbing, it’s more a case of no one being hyper-motivated to address the concerns a select few who were inappropriately critical.
With all due respect, I don’t think I’m being critical when saying I’d love to have the option for the old template. I bet I’m part of more than 1% who agrees.

Why is it inappropriate for the members of this forum to express their disapproval over anything?
i honestly could care less if my photo was there or not. actually, Onyx if you or Bing see this go ahead and take my picture down.
mostly what that comment has to do with is every person that doesnt like the new layout just shooting it down instead of giving suggestions. i dont like it all that much either because of the resolution im viewing it at but im dealing with it and trying to keep a look on it as the forum getting improved. and if the improvements take a couple of months i can deal with it till then.
Disapproval is fine. The manner in which a select few handled the situation is not.
I will address the default skin issue. Was it simple, yes. Was it functional for some of the things that we are trying to accomplish on the back end, no.
I will be spending more time to make this skin and more skins to the liking of the majority. It will never be possible to please everyone so I will not even try.
To the comment on people seeing this and walking away, again I have to disagree. I showed this to several people in my office and they all (except my boss) prefer the option with the graphics. I still have access to the default skin, but do I use it, NOPE. I use this one just like everyone else.
I will sit down with josh and create some prototype skins with different color options in photoshop and I will be sure that we post them in a thread with a poll so that you can all have your say early in the development process. anyone else that wants to design up something based off of the current, or another skin found online or whatever please be my guest. You can post it up in the suggestions section with a poll asking for a Yay or Ney on the layout. I will say that in the end the final decision will have to be up to Josh but I will not say no dont give input to creating your own community.

They would make most people happy and the site easier to read.
