Occupy Wallstreet

The only thing? No. It is a mix of the reasons you stated above and the ridiculous wages a union contract dictates for even the most menial job.

Excuse the semantics.

If it’s so awful for the company, then why would they agree to it? They’re a private entity, they can do what they want.

Exactly the reason why so many companies ship their labor overseas and avoid being held hostage by the unions. Those that choose to bargain have to pass the cost on to the consumer and live under constant risk of strike and contract negotiations.

They will ship and destroy US jobs if it means they save $2 a year. It’s all for the shareholders. Do you think all those US call centers and technical support jobs that were shipped to India and the like because those people were hard-nosed Union people??

So what you’re advocating for is lower wages and lower benefits for all American’s to save our own jobs?

Meanwhile CEO total package is skyrocketing…

Jeffery Immelt from GE got a 145% increase in package from 2009 to 2010. In 2010 General Electric made $10.5 BILLION PAID $0 in corporate taxes and got a $1.5 BILLION tax refund.

THIS is why people are upset.

LOL

The biggest problem we have is that the President has vilified the rich in an attempt to bring the attention away from his failed policies. The rich do pay a majority of the taxes already, with roughly 80% of the country only paying about 10%.

Now although this “occupation” as it’s called is healthy, it should have happened in DC and not NYC

oh, and like KBB, buy guns

I have an idea lets do this

Protest against every little faggot that doesn’t like capitalism, doesn’t wanna work, doesn’t like rich people, and kick em all the fuck out of our capitalist country

umm, no. people are protesting because they are tired of being exploited by this non-rewarding system. they are allowed to protest, and it has nothing to do with the type of economic system in place, it has to do with the type of government in place.

not sure why HudsonFalcon is getting socialism confused with “communist” Russia; when that was actually led by a DICTATOR, and that wasn’t even a communist country to begin with. This world has never seen a true communist country ever, and it never will.

Also, if you get rid of the people who are being exploited by this system, guess what happens then, all the middle-management types will now lose their job titles and status and be forced to work in the lower type jobs. A capitalistic society NEEDS to have more people at the bottom of the barrel being exploited for it to work. In capitalism, it wouldn’t make sense to have everyone rich or middle class, it just doesn’t work that way.

the people that work the hardest, get exploited by this system and get paid the least. And these people are getting tired of not being able to live anymore. They are working 40+ hours a week and can barely afford to pay rent, eat food, and have transportation to and from work. It’s a shame that the right-wing media and super elites are calling the lower classes lazy, and deadbeats when in fact they are the ones who sacrifice so that they CEO of XX company can have his nice bonus, get a 3rd house, all while the worker can’t eat dinner on Monday nights.

I personally work 60 hours a week now and for a lot less than I used to (thanks Federal Reserve, Corporate Banks, Wall St), I have no benefits, and it sucks.

The reason for the decline is due to corporate greed, deregulation of banking and finance industries and the federal reserve doing what they please seeing that they aren’t a gov’t agency and are above and answer to no one. We bail out the rich and bankers. The first major ($100 B+) starting with the Keating 5, and we reward businesses and wall st, whether or not they are successful or failing. Is that capitalism right there? No, it’s not.

I love when people bring up rich paying more taxes.

It’s their greed that makes them pay more because they make more and corporations are seeing record profits.

Wanna pay less taxes? Make less money.

Fine keep the rich tax the way it is, make it less for all I care and tax the poor but let then make more money.

No poor person will complain if they are taxed $10k more a year if they are allowed to make $20k more a year.

This is exactly what the rich are bitching about. They are seeing a very good 10+ years that allows them to make record profits but they don’t want to pay more.

Found out my professor of my first class was one of the several hundred people arrested this weekend on the brooklyn bridge after the police blocked them in.

from the Economist " In 2008, the top 1% paid 38% of all federal income taxes, and the top 5% paid 58%."

I don’t want my taxes to increase any more than any other middle class citizen, but we aren’t going to regain our budget from taxing the wealthy. We need less Government and less Government spending.

You making the rich out to be the bad guy is bullshit, you aren’t seeing the bigger picture. It’s not taxation that got us in to this mess, it’s spending

I’m not arguing that spending is absolutely retarded in this country. The fact that the AC budget a year for the troops in a dessert is bigger than the entire NASA budget and we are spending over NASAs budget just fighting rust on the fleet or rusting away millitary equipment.

If you’re looking up how much they pay in tax, also look up how much the top 1% earned compare to the rest of the group. Top 5% as well.

Higher taxing won’t fix the budget alone, whether the rich or the poor get taxed.

I was just commenting that the argument to protect rich from more taxation is absolutely asinine.

The recent interview with Bill O’Reilly on his comment that if he’s taxed any more he will stop doing his show and whatever else hes doing because it will be too much. He got called on that statement and Bill admitted there was no truth behind it.

Like the example I brought up earlier, any logical person will take a $20K raise even if it will be taxed $10K on it. 50%, fuckit, make it taxed 75%. You’re still netting $5K, it’s simple fucking math.

The corporations and the rich who had a good decade want their $20k with a cherry on top without any extra tax. That’s just pure greed. Don’t want to be taxed more, just make less money and you will pay less in tax. Nobody will do that because even if you’re taxed more on the gross, you’re net is still up, so it doesn’t matter.

Effin Bingo

This is a ridiculous statement. If someone is getting a raise, no matter what the dollar amount, there is certain amount of work that is expected to make up for that. NO ONE would accept a $20,000 raise if they were only going to see half or less of it. I know what I’m worth in my line of work, and if my boss came to me and said he was promoting me and giving me a $20K raise, I would know exactly how much more was expected of me to compensate for that bump, and I can tell you if I knew the government was taking 50-75% of it it would not be worth it.

You cannot be serious.

You remind me of people at my work who won’t do overtime because “they will be taxed more and it won’t be worth it”.

Really? You still will get paid more than you average rate even if it’s taxed higher and you will get that money back either way in taxes at the end of the year when it balances out that you weren’t in that tax bracket all year.

I just laugh at them and take the over time.

Some of you guys need math classes. :facepalm

How much they make is irrelevant…they are already paying more than everyone else. Why should it matter what they make??

If they make “x” amount of dollars do you want them to pay 60% of the taxes? 70%?? We keep doing that type of shit and it gives the rich more of a justification to leave the country/invest elsewhere

They make that money only because they are allowed to make that money and thanks to lobbyists they put themselves into a very healthy position.

90% of people has a boss that tells them how much they make, for corporations the boss is the government. Imagine if you had your own personal lobbyist to go to your boss and negotiate a sweet employment deal. Wouldn’t that be nice.

Of course they are paying more, how is that nor relevant? If you’re using %, which is the standard now for taxing everywhere, it’s simple math. More you make, more you pay. Are you seriously telling me that’s unfair?

All that proves is that they are doing so extremely well that even without raising the tax, at the agreed % level their record earnings are bringing most tax income, while middle class is paid so poorly that the % rate for them brings in shit.
