odometer roll back?

Hey guys,

I have a noob question for you guys…im still learning so forgive me for trying…but

how would I be able to tell if the odometer on a car has been rolled back or not? just in general?

I would say judging by the condition of the vehicle and frame rails etc., but theres always a good chance of a newer motor in the vehicle.

Any pointers ?

Bunch of finger prints all over the inside of the cluster usually gives it away.

lol well if someone was going through the trouble to do that…i would think that they would try to not leave there prints haha…but true enough some people are just plain ignorant lol

any other ways of checking?

used vehicle information package can somtimes tell. its hard to tell somtimes… tell us why your asking the question? do you have a car that you think has been rolled back? if so why do u think that?

well it was kind of a general question, but i guess i could put some examples to my inquiry.
I was looking at a couple 300zx’s on Tiger Japanese, along with the one Mitsu GTO.

But more specifically this 300zx http://www.jdmtigerjapanese.com/product_info.php?cPath=31&products_id=381
claiming to have like under 30,000kms…clearly is not original? im assuming…

I tried to call them today to get some info but “Nash”, who the guy told me to talk to was not in at the time.

Anyways, what are peoples opinions of the company? ive read some things on here about the front clips, and how they are mostly for parts and not cars, but it seems like a decent deal?? I know this is the non turbo one, and the body needs a little tlc…but all and all?

Thoughts, opinions, statements, concerns??

Thanks

its a Jdm model so yes its possible it has 30000 km, but that price is way to low for something with that many clicks. I’ve heard somethings about tiger so i would be cautious.

Dude, I wouldn’t buy a car from Tiger. They bring those cars over for parts mostly… Not to actually be street driven. You want affordable, top quality, low km cars… JMI out of Montreal is awesome!

hmmm thank you!

looks like a great selection! do you know anything else about them? like how often they get a new shipment, if that price is all you pay? any add on fee’s etc? just off the top of your head?

thanks again

haha accusing a jdm car of an odometer roll back…

Its not uncommon to have less than 60k on a car from japan. Anything over 100 on a 15 year old car is actually high. Its japan, they GENERALLY dont drive as far or as often. And dont say I dont know what i talking about ive been there.

But tiger jap seems sketchy. I’ve looked at the cars there. EVERY car has at LEAST major thing wrong with it. Weather its body or mechanical. There prices are SO low though its hard to argue. TT GTO for 5 500? Hell it costs like 3 grand to even get the thing here…

haha not accusing, but just more suspicion, thats all
and i agree with you…i lived in Japan for 3 months a couple summers ago and agreed that they don’t drive to far or often. Instead of driving from Nagoka to Tokyo we took the bullet train…took a lot less time! Japan is awesome tho, i saw so many skylines on the highways there it was crazy, got a couple in car pictures…or tried too… haha

but yes thanks for the inputs everyone!
