I wasn’t extremely outgoing either and I didn’t have tons of interviews. I just used the career services office at my college (that was usually empty because nobody ever used the services because they just expected their dream employer to call them up on the phone and offer them a job). I also found a local non-profit that actually looks for internships for you and places you with local companies. Again…another asset that nobody was really using. They had more employers looking for interns than they had applicants looking for jobs. It may have something to do with the field that I am in, I have no idea what it is like to look for a job in engineering, IT, etc., but it seemed like among my friends from college, the ones who actually looked for a job and actively pursued their careers, most of them got good jobs, the rest are still floundering in minimum wage positions.
And saying that accounting is a boring field that no-one wants to work in couldn’t be farther from the truth. If you look at reports on growing job markets, accounting has been near the top for the last five years. There is a lot of demand for accountants and it is a competitive field to get a good job in.
We are getting away from the main point though. People expect to have jobs handed to them, and Obama is only going to enable people even more and make them feel more entitled.
But, work should be something you actually enjoy doing, and going to, or you are in the wrong career. You should at least feel good about taking on the challenges at work. But, it shouldn’t be boring in the sense that you want to pull your hair out everyday.
So unless I can find something that I am passionate about, I should just sit at home and let the government pay for me to play xbox all day? Hmm…I am passionate about napping and washing my car…someone want to pay me six figures to do that all day?..Yeah that’s what I thought.
I may not love my profession, but it is something that I understand and my company treats me very well. Just because you don’t wake up in the morning excited to go to work, doesn’t mean you don’t have a good job.
I never said anything about sitting at home playing X box everyday. In fact, I’ve played next to NO video games since I started driving at the age of 16. I then put all the video games away.
I’m just saying that there has to be something about your job that you enjoy, or you are in the wrong profession. That means you should look for another job, if you don’t enjoy at least something about what you are doing.
Being misrable at your workplace, will eventually show, and the quality of your work will go down, it’s human nature.
I’m not excited to go to work everyday either. However, once I’m here, I would rather be here than home sitting and watching TV. I enjoy certain aspects of my job. YOu know, work is not all about money, and if it is for you, then you should probably not be in that profession, like I stated previously.
You have to put it in perspective that people just like money. Sometimes that’s enough reasoning for anyone, me on the other hand I personally couldn’t do it.
