«OFFICIAL» NY Spring / Summer Meet 2014 *Discussion*

It’s about that time

We want to go big again this year with promotion, sponsors, etc. However we’d like to avoid a “Lancaster” disaster where we give them a deposit but lose our day anyway. (Cruises to Letchworth, etc we’ll setup separately.)

The first step is choosing a location.
The second step is choosing a date.

For the location, we’ve been looking at venues around middle NY with about 2hrs max drive time. Keep in mind there are a sizable number of downstate people we’re looking to include this time around. We’d LIKE to rent a track (raceway and/or drag strip) but we’re open to other suggestions.

Here are some we’re considering (click ‘Sat’ to view if it’s not already selected):

Oswego Speedway
[map]oswego speedway[/map]

ESTA Safety Park Dragstrip

Shangri-La II Motor Speedway

I’ve looked into piggybacking onto the Syracuse Nationals, but they only allow cars OLDER than 1980. Still waiting on if they’d allow us leeway. But the State Fair Grounds is also a potential location.

I also looked into Seneca Army Depot, but they want nothing to do with cars anymore.

Give us your input on LOCATIONS so we can narrow them down!

In where ever we go and I will be there with a car

:orly:

Depending on progress with the bike, I may opt to bring that instead but I’m in for this as long as I’m in town.

Avon go cart track. BMWCCA does autoX there and it’s a cool place. http://gvkc.org/

I’m guessing Watkins Glen is out of the budget?

How about BeaveRun?

I’d drive to pittsburg for that… I loved running chump there.

man you could really open it up around there lol

For some reason I was thinking BeaveRun was farther east. Not going to be much good for the downstate crew.

What sucks is most of the tracks anywhere remotely close to downstate are member only.

New York Safety Track and Monticello for example.

Pocono is pretty central and does rentals.

A lot more than 2 hours from here though.

Beavrun is way too far away for a NY meet, not to mention in the wrong state  It’s a great place though.

We’re not renting the track at Watkins Glen but we could meet there. It’s a bit too far on the drive time.

The Avon track @theblue posted looks interesting, but it’s not far enough west. I’d rather do Shangri-La with a wider / faster track I think.

New York Safety Track is in a legal battle a-la Dunnville. I don’t want to give them any money.

Pocono looks awesome but again too far of a drive:

Im in…will be bringing the //////OMG because the Mustang is no fun on long drives

Do tell.

Any input on the locations I mentioned in the first post?

I know several members here have been to Shangri-La and ESTA.

oswego’s track surface is comparable to lancaster. not as many holes though. just a little bumpy. has a huge paved infield
shangri’la is all concrete so no issue there. dont think the infield is paved there though

what about holland speedway. i know thats closet to us but just a thought

or chemung speedrome 2.5 hrs away from buffalo

I understand the desire to have a “race” activity but how many people would really want to risk a failure or wreck that far from home?

It may be easier to find a gigantic state park to cruise to and relax. Otherwise I say screw race tracks…lets find an airfield and have a free for all

:word:

I just want a nice cruise, cool place to chill/eat some food, see people I haven’t in a while and then drive home.

I like the idea of some sort of event, but I agree with the risk factor not being cool.

Is this a meet or a track day thread?

Lol, I know I speak for most Rochester people when I say we enjoy the Finger Lakes Cruise and Letchworth Meet.

Not speaking for the group, but my level of interest plummets as the event moves toward a race event.

Expressed mathematically:

interest [event -> race] {event} = 0

What about the chimney bluffs state park?
