«OFFICIAL» NYSpeed Summer Meet: LETCHWORTH, Sun Sep 16th 2012

The meet is now going to happen at Letchworth State Park on Sunday September 16th at 1pm!

We’re not planning on having food or drinks there for you, so this is BRING YOUR OWN unless Mike (tpgsr) decides to cook.

We’re also not renting a shelter (the weather outlook looks dry) BUT we’ll be meeting near the same shelter as we have in the past; the Middle Falls shelter.

Since every year people seem to get lost in the park, make sure you enter the park at the PORTAGEVILLE entrance and drive to the MIDDLE FALLS area as shown in this picture:

Cruise INFO:

This is a modified route from our trip in 2010 and I’ve removed any unpaved sections.

If you want to head straight to Letchworth this route isn’t for you. Yes, we’re going quite a ways out of the way. And Yes, it’s going to be long.

We’re going to do things a bit different this time but we’re not doing this with the intent to drive like assholes on unfamiliar twisty roads. Rather we’re going to take a tour of the area using roads-less-traveled. And it’s not going to be for everyone (obviously) but for those who are looking for a fun driving experience in addition to the meet.

Some points explained:

A) This is where we’ll be meeting up and meeting at 8:30am Sunday morning - Garden Place Hotel - Since it’s right near the highway, it’s a central location and easy to find because it’s obnoxious:

B) The first part of our route will take us to a convenient store & gas station so that people can fill up, grab snacks, etc. before we start off on the backroads sections. Rochester people, meet us here at 10:30am!

C) to H) These way points maximize the fun roads. Hitting them will depend on time, people’s gas levels, etc. and there are several points we can eliminate to adjust the route as necessary. It’s also important to note that I’ve pulled out the hard, unpaved roads which will make up a lot of time. And we won’t get stuck in traffic during the Naples Grape Festival (we’re doing this cruise the week before) and that will also make up A LOT of time!

I) This is our BBQ location in Letchworth State Park.

Those who are lapping, we’re going to use the same handbook that we used for Dunnville back-in-the-day. I’m game with anything at all, I like the state park for scenery/cruise but Lancaster was awesome too

x2

Yep.

Would any of you guys want to lap the track?

Lancaster was cool last year but the weather def. wasn’t the greatest. I think that had an effect. Driftimg was definitely fun to watch just needed a couple more cars. Still up for the tandem drift?

If by tandem drift you mean crash-o-ramma, then I’m sure we’d get a lot of people out there to watch, lol.

Any chance Lancaster would open the 1/8th mile?

No chance that we’d rent it for the day. There are already plenty of opportunities to race on the 1/8th mile track throughout the summer that cost less than it would if we rented it.

I don’t think Lancaster would be that bad:

Holland would be better:

That’s exactly what I was thinking Jeremy. The transitions from the large to the small oval are a little off-camber, but nothing that would really stop us from doing it that way. We looked into using portions of the drag strip and it could be done & would be much more fun, but safety wise we could only run one car. What I’d like to do is set things up just like we did at Dunnville where people could go on and off as they wanted throughout the day. People could sit in the stands and watch. With a limit of X number of cars on at a time of course.

Holland is just too small IMO.

Lets hit up the downer.

now im in.

I’d definitely hit the track, but I’m down to just hang out too.

Track would be cool, maybe some lapping and open up the lanes for some drag racing?

Drag racing isn’t going to happen guys. We’ll have a drag racing day at some point this summer but it won’t be at Lancaster.

The 400? lol

I’ll lap anything for shits and giggles.

+1
