After cruising back from the Glen at an average speed of 90 (and sometimes a bit faster), and passing a few troopers (luckily at slower speeds) I thought a device with law enforcement sniffing capabilities might be in order. As far as the truck, maxed out at about 17mpg on the thruway to Ohio last summer. 12-13 city. Not the greatest but it’ll pull Thor’s hammer out of his ass. Just a word of advice, a radar detector shouldn’t be used as an excuse to speed, but instead an aid. Laser and instant-on will get you. I have a friend who was going 125 in a 4.8 bmw x5 with the top of the line escort radar detector and he got lasered. As far as i know these detect laser, but by the time they do, you are already targeted, the only way around this is to get a jammer, and these are expensive…i’ve been looking for a while. Once i get a new car i might just get a built in system
I got hit by laser a while back, I was doing 100 in a 55-65, don’t remember exactly. It was heavyish traffic but nobody in the left lane. I got away with my passport 8500, how I have no idea. Another time I was doing 79 in a 55 and he got me with laser. Can’t win em all but you can get away from laser if you are lucky I guess. My radar detector has saved my ass a bit tho ,but than again, I speed more with it.
I certainly understand they are not a “cloak of invincibility” but it would be nice to have some advantage vs. none at all. I don’t really speed on a regular basis, if at all. Just once in a while you need to open it up. I guess I’m waiting for the day I get caught speeding and the officer won’t be saying “license and registration” but instead “driver…show me your hands, NOW!”

They recently bought a bunch of police auction seized vehicles and retro fitted them for trooper use, the main goal is to stop cell phone use / texting. However they are equipped with the standard speeder detector bullshit
When driving they will not be using radar so they avoid setting off some of the detectors.
From what i was told, they have a white ford focus with a big dent in the side of it, a teal beat up ford Taurus and some SUV. they are completely unmarked and look like piles of shit.

The whole driving with a cell phone thing is the kind of law i very rarely see people obeying. I use bluetooth since i used to be on the phone a lot, but the amount of people i see on their phones while driving is obnoxious. I don’t mind it if the person is a good driver, but when you have shitty drivers talking on their phones while driving, it pisses me off. To be honest, half the people on the road shouldn’t have a license.
I highly doubt they will pull you over in their unmarked car. West Seneca does something similar to this in front my dealership on Southwestern Blvd. They have an unmarked trailblazer that sits on the opposite side of the road and shoots radar at oncoming cars. 50’ past the unmarked car is 3-5 cop cars who pull out after being notified of what cars are speeding and they then pull them over and issue tickets. I am sure that there will be cop cars in the area who will jump in and pull over these cars.
I figured it probably would have been the same way. Cop passes you, gets a plate/make/model/color and calls it ahead to a trooper.
Side not. someone know how to have nice things in Clarence. I see 1 of 2 cars almost every morning coming into to work parked in the Federals parking lot near Main and Harris Hill.
