in this diagram you see number 18, the half shaft support?
theres nothing wrong with mine…just that all the bolts stripped out of the block. and the support is hangin bouncin off my exhaust. i took it somewhere for hopefully a quick fix here at school, but the guy said they are too far stripped. he got the bolts to catch by hand but if you crank on them with a wrench he said they just keep spinning. he said they block will have to be pulled and tapped becuase there is no room between the block and the car to do the work with the engine in the car. i just simply cant afford this right now. anyone have this happen before? i need a way i can fix this with the engine in the car.
its not the bolt that is stripped. its the bolt hole that the bolt threads into that is stripped(engine block) a bolt goes through one of the mounting holes and threads directly into the block(good old aluminum)
dont you have to drill to rethread the holes? or even get a heli-coil going? if you do, there just isnt enough room to fit a drill in there and get it straight
god damn, there is no way you’re going to heli-coil that with the block in the car, especially not with the stresses that particular hanger sees. Talk about being kicked while you’re down. Damn!
you wouldnt happen to have one to borrow would ya tony? i’m tryin to find one, someone on honda-tech actually suggested that about 5 min ago
oh, and would anyone know where i could locally get a 10x1.25 heli coil? i’m having a real hard time findin one. advance cant get one that big, napa has to order it and its like $70. i’m not sure where else to check
I got one at Pep boys before but they are about 50 bucks. You can fill that hole back up with aluminum weld and retap. ( if you can get in there to weld it)
well, fixed this problem this weekend. big big thanks to to brian for lettin me use his air drill. i got home, got it all set to go and i suddenly got worried about just how badi could mess this up. so i opted for a lesser extreme option first. i tried threadin the bolts in just to see what would happen. just like the guy at the shop said they got finger tight, but would spin with a wrench. so the next thing i did was get slightly longer bolts. i got each one of them to get tight with a wrench, but they were a little too long. so i backed them all out, got a washer and a locknut, a whole bunch of red locktite, put them back in and tightened them down real good. let it cure over nite, and they seem to be holding real good. so problem appears to be fixed for now
