well… i just may have lucked out… appears to be VERY minor if not no damage to the crank, connecting rod, and CR Cap…
looks like i could smooth out the crank in Cyl 4 with a peice of emory cloth and put some standard size bearings in til my new motor is finished :hsdance:
theres HARDLY damage on the crank. so i think im good
Damn…hope you can fix it pretty cheap…since you are “neon guy” maybe it is time for a motor swap…SRT4???..or just fix it and sell it and get a SRT4???
I could do the SRT motor swap if i had the time and money…
I’d rather just Build an N/A 2.4 from a stratus and turbo it using SRT internals and SRT turbo+ manifold.
BUT, im currently building a new 2.0 for this car and hopfully putting in large cams…
about this spun bearing: looks like i’ll have it back together and running by the end of the day :bigthumb: (I love how easy these motors are to work on!)
Wow that is pretty quick…I take it oyu don’t have to pull the motor…I know the GP is a pain just to even get the pan off
good luck!
left for work at 7:15, broke down around 7:25… drove the car back knocking a little (1mile), started workin on it at around 9:00, and had the pan dropped and bearings out by 10:30.
I just had to pull the front motor mount bracket and drop the pan, i can reach everything from down there. woot!
couldnt find ANY place in town that had the bearings in stock… so i had to get them from advance and they ordered them from the warehouse, they’ll be here tomorrow morning
Thank you jesus for cast iron connecting rods!!!
if they were alum. I’d probably be FUCKED and the rod would have been destroyed.
everything is cleaned up underneath and the crank has no wear (Just peices of the bearing rubbed off on the crank, cleaned up easy).
looks like the new set of standard size bearings will do the trick. car will be done after work tomorrow.
aren’t neons throw away cars? i would have just junked it…
why? body is perfectly fine, and the spun bearing is a $50 fix, (since there was no damage to rod or crank.)
 i guess that went over your head.
no, its far from a throw away car
I guess it is fixed…I saw that turdmobile on the way to work today.
easier to pull the whole motor
Is she fixed?
on the GP or Neon? cuz its def not easier to pull the motor to get to the bearings on the neon.
temporary fix. i knew it wasnt going to be fixed the right way…
when i put the new bearings in i did notice a SLIGHT bit of play in #4 cylinder…
sounds 50X better than it did, and i can get back and forth to work.
nothing i can do about that unless i can get SLIGHTLY oversized bearings… still has a slight tick. oh well… maybe if i get around to it i’ll see if i can get a slightly oversized bearing for that cylinder… im not worried about it, like i said im building another motor…
only thing im going to miss until new motor is done is fishing… since i dont want to take the car out more than needed… mainly just useing it for back and forth to work…
were you on 51 tuesday night in a blue GP? i seen some guy in a blue GP like you showed me in a pic.
i was in the civic, not my car
It may have been…I was driving to baldwin HS coming from streets run road.
hmmmm, you were headed towards century 3 when i say it. like 9:45
i was in the left lane and your were in the right, and you got stuck behind a bus in front of eat n park…
shame…i would have ran ya with the honduh :kekegay:
ya I was going home…went to Baldwin High to run some sprints…I turn right at Eat N Park to go home
