You’re unbelievable. I don’t know why I keep arguing with you. I’d imagine someone as “smart” and “experienced” as you would know the benefit of certs or any eduction for that matter. I guess I was wrong.
Yes, yet it does.
news flash: you don’t know everything. There are many people out there that actually know more than you. Accept it and learn from them. Again, (I’ll put it in bold for you this time)… a certification is not a form of education
if you were to rank these are far as importance then how you rank them?
education
experience
certs
whats the most important and whats the least?
Experience
Education
Certs
That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t get them or waste your time with them. People will notice them if you have them. That is my point. And if all the other variables are equal (education/experience), I’m willing to bet $0.34 in my pocket that the person with more certs will be looked at more seriously than someone with zero certs.
THAT IS MY POINT.
Just because YOU deem it not worth it, doesn’t mean the IT world does.

Being a hooker FTW!
IT does not boil down to just programming and networking. Yes, a lot of IT jobs are outsourced and they will continue to be outsourced. I have to agree with Granmassa on the issue that safety in term of job security are not all that great. However, looking at IT as an industry, I would say it stands a much better chance in the failing economy as some other industries.
as Borat Very nice, how much?
There is WAY too much information to discuss. But, I think the problem is using IT as a term because it’s very difficult to compare Networking vs Development. In my experience, certs don’t do much for the developers/engineers (Yes, there is a difference). Unfortunately, years of experience often does not equate to knowledge. That’s why there’s a technical interview. A guy doing 5 years of bug fixes vs a guy doing 5 years of new development and building new products is not equal. Most of the companies I have worked for have required a 4 year education as min. requirement. Unfortunately, some places have no clue what good product development really is. I nearly laughed at my previous employer when they praised one of our junior devs (3 months) for building a portal that works fine. They have not a clue what’s under the cover. Probably the reason they are going under. So, some get it and some don’t.
For the record, the best dev I ever met is a Solutions Architect consultant from Avanade. He is a college drop out with no degree/certs. He is a few years over me and while I am building applications, he is building enterprise architecture and teaching at Microsoft’s Code Camp. Certs/Degree/years experience don’t often tell the story.
Also, I just took a MS SharePoint course where I got a cert. I didn’t pay for it. Nor did I take a test. It was also 12 day course pushed into 3. What a joke.
IT blows get out while you can!!!
j.k but FUCK this economy and people that dont spend anymoney to make this last evvvvven longer
