Old Guy from OP, NY w/'86 RX7

I bought this car about 2 years ago, it didn’t run and came with an extra engine (questionably running) & tranny, paint was bad but the body was solid. The challenge was the rotary engine - I had never played with one of those before. I rebuilt it last year and drove it looking ratty for the summer. These rotary’s are really fairly simply to work on - crazy things that they are. So this one is box stock except for a cat back exhaust (too quiet!), wheels & radio. Had it painted this spring. I like the way it looks and it’s fun to drive, but I’m not gonna race it or race you…so don’t ask. I’m hoping to find some other RX7 owners, especially Gen 2’s. Looking for leads on seats (aftermarket, used, whatever), suspension (maybe lower it a bit) and willing to help out other rotary owners. Any RX7 guys out there?

Trying to post pictures - having trouble uploading. I’ll get this out there and keep trying with the pics. Any hints???

Welcome! Where are your pics now? On your computer or the web?

welcome! use photo bucket or image shack then put around the url to the photo.

Can’t figure out how to upload pics. Keeps saying that the upload fails.
So - what’s up with my username… “epitrochoid”??? That’s the mathematical term for the shape that the Apex Seals trace as the rotor spins around. It’s kind of an oval with the sides squished in a little. Any rotary geek would know that! Sorry for that little math lesson!
Previous cars of interest are '65 Triumph TR-4, '55 Chevy, '74 Firebird, '66 Caprice. Love working on cars & mechanical stuff. Own 2 Yamaha 4-stroke sleds, '08 Vector LTX & '07 Rage GT.

pics are on my PC.
I don’t know what photobucket or image shack is - suffering from old guy syndrome!

photobucket.com and imageshack.us are places to upload the pictures so you can post them here.

I’ve got an '87 GXL, but I’m not a rotary owner… It’s pretty much stock except the engine.

:hay:

pictures are needed.

welcome

Welcome!! Die hard RX-7 and rotary fan as well. But unfortunately I’ve never owned one and wouldn’t know how to work on one anyways. Can’t wait to see the pics though. I love FD’s the most, like most people, but I’ve loved 7’s since I was a kid. My neighbor had a nice 85 GSL-SE when I was growing up.

dont apologize for the math lesson!

email me and I will help you out.

Thanks travisn - they’re on the way to you.
Copper280z - so what’s under the hood? Do you have a thread here with pics & info?

Looks good

Right now nothing is under the hood, I have a 5.3(LS1)/t56 combo that I’m assembling at the moment. It should be up and running sometime this summer. I don’t have a thread or many pictures up because the last few months have just been parts collecting, the fun stuff starts soon though.

That’s a very clean looking car you have!

Former Turbo II owner myself, welcome to the forum:

Pics of the old girl, I do miss that car from time to time:

I had a feeling this was you Dave! It’s Lundeen from FP:) As soon as I saw the name Epitrochoid…I remembered your presentation on the Wankel. Welcome to the forum, many good eggs here…along with some you just have to ignore.

PS. this guy may claim to be old…but he can still play hockey;)

nice rx7

and OT, but jeller that car was from hamburg wasnt it?

chris these pics are sooooo old!! what i miss most is (if it is) your brothers car in the background, sooooo many good times were had in / because of that hatch. also, your love for cars made me the car junkie i am today, also xander pulling in in his WRX when they were brand new, tom and his talon, ect…

but i digress, there is nothign better than an old man joining a forum, saying “i rebuilt this motor but i cant post pics because im computer illiterate fuck it” and just giving a general hello to everyone

welcome!! my parents had a 80? rx7 well before i was even a thought, these cars have always had a place in my heart

welcome
