i’m not saying im a fan of the following artists, but: Celine Dion, Diana Krall, Alexisonfire, Billy Talent, Tragically Hip, Avril Lavigne all sell out shows all over the world and all of them are more culturally revelant today than pretty much any of those that performed.
Billy Talent and Alexisonfire are a strong commercial representation of our world-class rock scene.
The majority of this country is as progressive and as metropolitan as any other people of any other country… we did not portray it that way.
We could have showed Canada to be one of the best educated nations on earth, which it is, and one with one of the strongest financial systems on earth, which it is… We could have demonstrated our vast supply of natural resources too.
Each of these key features of our nation bode well for our future as a culturally and econnomcially relevant nation.
We ignored it.
We could have raised our international profile, instead we made a fool of ourselves in front of 50+ million viewers worldwide.
I remain ashamed.
Apparently it was an Australian company that won the bid to put the show together.
The show was for all ages. There is no way in hell that anyone over 30 would listen to Billy talent and Alexisonfire or any other of that screamo shit. Thats same reason why they didn’t put Famous, Kardinal, or Classfied, up on stage.
I agree that The Tragically Hip, Avril Lavigne or Diana Krall would have been better choices.
Overall some things could’ve been improved, but as said earlier. The first Gold on home soil will be the true memory of these Olympics, not the opening ceremony
lol… i just got called an ignorant bigot on facebook (twice) for my critique of the opening ceremonies. 2 degrees of separation, so i don’t even know who the guys are.
