Being able to afford a winter/beater and not wanting to spend the money is two completely different things. If you drive a 20K+ or able to mod your car, you can afford a DD. If you can’t, you probably can’t afford the car to begin with which seems to be a common trend.

Honestly, having a DD was the best decision I ever made. You can get a lot of quality cars for $1-2K that are reliable.

As for driving a RWD car in the snow… it’s not as big of a deal as one may think. 400hp or not, that all depends on the driver. Also the 3800lb curb weight will keep it planted decently along with the snows I will be buying for it.

3800 will keep it planted alright. When it’s at zero mph.

When that mass starts to move in any direction, I am guessing that is where people run into problems.

My dad’s '03 BMW 540i 6spd is horrible in the snow with 4 brand new Blizzaks. I’m pretty sure the 540i is somewhere around 3500lbs or so as well and has a 360hp/360tq(or somewhere close to that) V8.

I can only imagine that a big body GTO is horrendous in the snow.

I thought they made somewhere like 290 HP and low 300s TQ at 3800+ lbs… I’m sure the mass has a lot do with the snow driveability.
