I’m actually looking at the American Racing headers and x-pipe. The shop that I talked to about rebuilding my heads suggested a BTR Stage 3 cam for what I’m trying to achieve.
I picked up a “Corvette Parking Only” sign for the garage while in Ellicottville this past weekend, LOL.
it doesn’t beat up the motor itself, it beats up valvetrain components. more aggressive cam lobes (opening fast and slamming shut) require stiffer valve springs that don’t have the service life of OEM parts. Broken valvesprings are nothing new when it comes to aggressive cams, but recently there have been some LS7 lifter failures that are probably a combination of the super stiff springs and lots of side load on the roller wheel.
The shop I’m talking with recommended atleast upgraded valve springs, I will likely upgrade a few other things as well. After blowing up my Evo not long after I bought it I’m not taking any chances this time around. LS7 costs just a bit more than a 4G63…
i understand you have to upgrade the springs but im asking what is the average life expectancy for aftermarket valve springs with something like a katech torquer cam?
so im sure you did all the research already but any reason you went with an 06 vs an 08?
a bunch of threads ive stumbled upon all hype the 08+ TR-6060 trans vs the T56 that came in the 06/07’s.
is it typical forum bullshit opinions? seems like the t56 is a pretty stout setup
also at what point do you need to upgrade the clutch in these things? any plans for that?
I don’t think it’s justifiable to want the TR6060 when running stockish power (cam/bolt ons). if you plan to go apeshit with power adders one day i guess it’d make sense. I wonder what the shift quality/feel is like with the 6060 vs the older T56
I actually wanted 08+ but really couldn’t pass up the deal on this car. I only plan to do cam/heads/headers so I should be ok with the T56 and stock clutch. Anything more and I think I would be considering beefing up the trans and upgrading the clutch.
Should be 550whp-600whp depending cam and tuning/dyno. I think I will be plenty happy with that.
Still driving this thing, but anxious to start the tear down. Slowly gathering parts, these just arrived today. Lucky for me, Towne aquired a GM dealer not too long ago so parts are very cheap for me
Took it off the road this week, just in time for nice weather… :tif:
Pulled the valve covers
Pulled the rockers and pushrods
Cam showed up along with plenty of ARP lube for studs and bolts
pulled the heads
water pump, manifolds, hosed down everything from all the coolant
need to move the rack to get the crank bolt and pulley off
Going to ship the heads out to American Heritage Performance in California. probably won’t get to the cam for a bit, and I still need to order headers and some more gaskets.
