Out of State buyer wants my car.....

I picked up a form today at the DMV just in case he buys it.

Thanks again

Bumping this one.

The buyer for my car is from Tennessee, he’s flying up next Friday to get the car.

I know I can do the in-transit permit thing, how much of a pain in the ass is it to have a lien on the title?

Our plan is:

Pick up at airport, drive to credit union with certified check, get lien release and title in hand.

Go to DMV, obtain in-transit permit.

Say goodbye.

Is this realistic?

^^ @KuntryQuestTSi …He sold his WRX to an out-of-statie a few years ago. Maybe he could answer this.

When I sold the Rex they did a wire transfer to my credit union. Then once payment cleared they sent a car hauler.
As longer as the credit union will issue a release on the spot you will be fine.

But will the DMV issue a in-transit permit with the title/lien release in hand? He wants to drive it back to Tennessee.

That I have never delt with. I don’t see why they wouldn’t. Call your local friendly dmv and ask. Then call 5 more to be sure.

Sat on the phone waiting for the DMV for 20 minutes, gave up.

you can register / sell a car with a lien (ive seen this spelled incorrectly SO MANY TIMES IN THIS THREAD)

if he goes to the credit union with you and you get a lien release, that + the title (with a lien on it) is as good at any dmv as a completely clean and clear title. when he reg’s the car in his name with proof of the loan being satisfied, it will wash the title of any lien

I actually bought a car that had a lien on the title but the woman said it was paid off, she called the bank with me at her house on speakerphone and the bank assured me there was no money owed. I then took the title, registered the car in my name (lien transferred to my name in the title, I needed a car that day) then in 4-6 weeks when the release from the bank came in the mail I stuck it in the envelope with the title and when I sold the car the release and title went with the new buyer.

I hope that clarified things for you

Addressed this issue in post # 19. BTW, the correct spelling of the contraction for I and have is “I’ve” with capitalization of the “I” as well. You also should’ve capitalized the “Y” in “you” since it was the beginning of a sentence. Also missing a “.” but I will overlook.

there is a huge difference between using the completely wrong word, and overlooking minor capitalization and punctuation errors in a quickly written message, so I would hope that you would overlook it

IRREGARDLESS, they’re we’re sum vary important questions answered hear.

Lol.

Thanks @Jam for clearing that up, sounds about what I thought.

I don’t understand what the issue is. Have him give you the money then take him to the dmv. Front desk has always been helpful and will tell you/him what he needs to do. I wouldn’t be surprised if he needs insurance on the car.

This is the form he needs to fill out.

This is exactly what I did with the R32. Make sure he has all of his insurance info with him.
