Out of state vehicle purchase, lien on vehicle questions

I have an agreement laid out to purchase a vehicle out of state. There is a lien on the vehicle and the owner does not have a title in hand. They are able to pay the rest of the lien and have a lien release ready. I can’t really wait 4-6 weeks for his DMV to send him a title(lien branded or not) to purchase it either. My finance company will obviously not release funds until they can verify the title and that it is free and clear of any liens(or with proper documentation of lien release)

Is there a way to expedite the title? The car is registered in PA.
Or, is there a better route to go with this purchase? Pay his finance company through mine, etc.

Any advice is appreciated.

You don’t need a clear title. A lean release letter from his bank or whoever financed it for him with the title should work for your bank I would think?

PA retains the title. There is NO way to get the title without having the lien paid off. This process obviously takes several weeks. Techinically, if you pay off his loan and he recieves a lien free title, he wouldn’t have to sign it over to you. PA is the most ass-backwards state to try to buy or sell a car. Their lien free titles, have 4 places to transfer ownership on the back…so a car could be sold 4 times and still have the original owner’s information on it.

There is no way to do what you’re trying to do. Find another car.

BTW - I even called a PA auto dealer friend of mine and he says you’re SOL.

Thanks for the replies guys. Wish I would of known this before I went through finding financing and negotiations. Thread can be closed.
