Which paint did you buy from them if you don’t mind me asking? Let me know when you’re going to buy more and I’ll see what I can do pricewise for you on my paint. I can get a colorbook in your hands if you’d like to make the color choosing a bit easier also.
get youself a 2 1/2 sash purdy brush and 3/8 nap rollers. i painted my house cheap. i get sherwin williams promar 200 for 9.99 a gallon
We bought the super paint. I let the manager make a lot of my decisions as I really do not know enough about paint to know which of theirs is the best. We are covering existing color and he said this would be a good paint for that. I am not sure what the cost per gallon was but I can look later. I would to grab a color book for the rest of the house, they had one for $10, but I wanted to make sure I was happy with the paint first. What company do you work for?

Damn that is cheap. Hook up or do you get it through a pro? Where is Whitehall?
its in pittsburgh. i get super paint for around $20-25. it sells for about 45 to walk in customers. i used to be a commercial painter and i know the vice president of a big contractor.
i usually use promar 200 on my ceilings, either promar or color accents on walls and super paint on all trim. also flat for ceilings, eggshell on the walls and semi gloss for trim.
Yeah, the manager was right. With a color change I’d use their super paint for sure. Pro-mar 200 is great when you don’t need to clean off your walls as it doesn’t have the scrubbability of super paint or duration. I have dogs so I wipe the walls off regularly in a few spots. Not to mention contractor grades of paint like pro mar 200 aren’t forgiving at all for homeowners that don’t have great painting technique.
I work for Schuele Paint, we’re a benjamin moore dealer. Just let me know when you’re painting again and I’ll give you a color book to help you out. My store has a licensed designer on staff and I’ve taken enough color classes to have my degree haha so we can help choose colors too if you bring in fabric, pillows, shower curtain etc.
69camaro, have you used Purdy brushes recently? I sell them and have been getting a ton of returns from the bristles falling out, have you been hearing similar?
Don’t most brushes do that? I like the Purdy roller covers however. I recently ripped some wallpaper from my upstairs stairway, and it all came off pretty easy except one spot where it ripped the top layer of drywall. Can I just spackle over that or should I replace the drywall?
Lol, no brushes of Purdy’s quality aren’t suppose to lose bristles. Any brush over $10 shouldn’t shed.
As for your drywall, you need to seal the paper up with an oil based primer, then skim coat with either spackle or joint compound. If you put spackle or water based primer on it, you’re going to get bubbles because the water will lift the brown paper.
Will do. Now what about the textured residue from the wallpaper. Keep in mind this wallpaper was probably 40+ years old. Should I just sand it or prime it also?
Sand then prime. Once you prime it, you’re going to have trouble sanding it. You can also use a product from Zinsser calld DIF. It’s a glue enzyme that you mix 1:1 with HOT water. Spray or sponge it on, let it set but don’t let it dry, reapply if necessary. Then after a half hr or so you can wash the glue off.
This stuff works great once you get passed that first layer of paper.
Amen, for $4.99 it works miracles. I laugh when people say they used vinegar and water. I can’t imagine the smell of a vinegar soaked room haha.
The paper all pretty much peeled off really easy. It just left the checkered glue pattern behind. It’s dry and seems like it’d sand off with easy.
