Parallel megasquirt

So I am trying to see if anyone in the area runs a megasquirt parallel to their stock ecu? I am interested in a setup like this which gives full standalone ability with obd2 compatibility. Planning to boost my miata, but I would also like to keep it obd2 compabilities for inspection purposes.

Thanks

if you have not already read that

check megasquirt forums… incredably informative

I did this. I left my stock ecu in the car to control everything but fuel and spark, and had the MS do full fuel and spark control. While I never had any need to switch back to stock, it would have been simple. What people do is just install extra pigtails going to the stock ecu for injectors and coil pack.

Theoretically, all you would have to do is swap back to stock injectors, and then swap pigtails, and you would be under control of the stock PCM. In most cases, this would make the car run like crap, since you would probably have a big turbo there that is not their stock, or something like that, but it would do the job for passing OBD2 inspection.

If I do it again with a cleaner shell, that is newer, I will be doing this method. It really isn’t too bad.

my friend Brian did this to his 97 eclipse. the MS currently controls the fuel and the stock ecm still controls the spark till the boost goes up higher than 5psi.

to pass inspection he pops the stock injectors in and takes the spring out of his wastegate and hooks the EGR solenoid back up and it passes easily. you can hammer the car too and get 0 boost.

I plan on leaving the stock injectors, they can handle up to around 190whp. This way, I don’t even have to switch injectors for inspection. Anyone would like to help me get it setup? I am currently NA and I was like to play around with its capabilities before boosting. I wouldn’t mind paying someone to assemble a ms and install it in parallel for me, either.

I wonder if Mike at innovative has ever tuned using MS? Eventually when I got turbo I’d have to get it dyno tuned.

He has played around with MS. I probably have the most MS seat time around here, other then rick (bald turbo freak). He is hands down the most knowledgeable locally.

If mike @ innovative is willing to tune you, I can walk him through anything he needs to know. I would not have a problem tuning you if it wasn’t for the whole liability thing. I only tune my own car, so if anything ever happens, I am the only one at a loss, not another person.
