Basically just get a passport photo taken at a post office or drug store photo lab, fill out the forms, and submit the thing.

FYI I had to get a new birth certificate when I got my passport because my original didn’t have the raised stamp. Might want to check your birth certificate now…
yea mine doesnt have the raised stamp, I think its a copy.
So can I take this photo myself or should I pay for it?
You can order new birth certificates online for around ~25. I needed to order one when getting my passport… simply google and you’ll find a number of sites that can provide it for you.
As a reference, a year or so ago it took me 1 month to get my passport, and I know it’s only been faster since then.

Eh, I’d pay for it. They can be really particular. I had to have mine taken 3 times because the dude at the passport center (post office) didn’t like the shadow behind my head one time and something else lame the second time.
