Pay Salary

What should a person that has graduated with an assoc, Bath, Masters, PH.d make?

Depends on the job

you shouldn’t ‘make’ anything just because you have a degree… you should have to prove yourself worthwhile in the position you are in.

minimum wage if they are working at McDonalds I guess… what area?

That’s what I was thinking…
I am a high school graduate and I make almost $50,000 / year… <- That reflects on what Sonny said… It doesn’t matter what your degreee is if you suck at doing your job.

:hsugh:

what is a “Bath” degree?

:naughty:

I think it means Batchelor

sp?

bachelor degree people!

bach·e·lor’s
noun
( P ) Pronunciation Key (bch-lrz, bchlrz)
A bachelor’s degree.

P.S. I think that if you have all those degrees and are a capable worker then you should easily make 6 figures.

The PhD degree doesn’t really mean that much in terms of commanding a big salary without experience to go with it. Other doctorates such as MD’s and related or JD’s can bring in decent money on degree alone without experience to back it.

Definitely dependent on the field and geographic area though, a PhD in philosophy is not exactly gonna make it rain money.

We hired a guy who had a master’s in engineering… and fired him because he was an idiot. He seriously couldn’t do ANYTHING without someone holding his hand.

I have a friend who has a bachelors in music, environmental science and also psychology. He holds a masters in exostencial phenomenological psychology. He waits tables for a living… that isn’t saying that he can’t get another job, just that his degrees are not exactly marketable, and he is holding out for a job that he REALLY wants.

actually, it also depends on the area - cost of living… I am making over $10,000 more here in CT, but then again, it’s a higher cost of living.

Hmm well what kind of Job… Engineers make decent money with just a bachelors… but become more valuable once they take the EIT/PE test… Same goes for Landscape Architects…

Don’t count on it. Even with a Phd, six figures is far from a sure bet. The hardest aspect in regards to getting a well paying position in any field is experience. Employers want to hire employees with experience doing the tasks they require. Most people fresh out of school don’t have real world experience. With no experience, expect to start with a position that pays substantially less than that of an experienced employee with less “paperwork”.

Of course all of this is horribly generalized and depends strongly upon what line of work is being considered. The emphasis on degrees varies wildly with different occupations. The main thing is not to consider any degree a meal ticket. I’ve come across far too many people who come out of school with reams of degrees but don’t know shit about the subject they’re supposed to be degreed in. Of course the opposite is true, but there is no substitute for hands- on experience and critical thinking in any occupation.

Don’t take this as damnation of college/ higher education-- just realize that it’s not the only factor in a successful career.
